Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Hi,Someone was going to give me a magnavox flat screen. Not sure what was wrong with it,but I turned it on,and theres a picture. Was a little greenish spotty on the whole right side about 4 inchs in.Then it seemed to dissapear somewhat. And then I noticed a top to bottom dark spot slowly creeping across the screen from the left to the right..Kinda like a wand moving over it slowly.. Is this something that can be easily fixed?Or any ideas on what to do or what it might be?Thanks,Scotty :)

SOURCE: I have a Flat screen

Are the lines all the way across the screen? or just a few? Solid black - or trannslucent?

Like this??

5af01cc.jpg
Horizontal drive has either data, voltage, or control problem from the pixel registry circuit......get it serviced before the problem spreads causing further damage.

However, in all likelyhood, the panel itself is bad. The Bravia line has had a bad rap about the faulty displays, and at $1800 replacement (plus labor) - it may be time to call SONY direct to complain!

Thanks!!

SOURCE: I have a Sanyo 46 inch flat screen hdtv purchased

I have the same problem, my television is faded black on the left side with lines on the left top side. I have had the 46 inch unit for 1 year and 7 months. I am planning to write a demand letter to Sanyo and then taking them to small claims court woth evidence that this is a common problem with their units that they know about and is not trying to remedy. Also the Attorney general in Texas should have an interest in them (Walmart and Sanyo) selling these defective proucts in the state.

I have a Magnavox 55" Led Tv it will play about 2 or 3 seconds then the picture messes up for about a second and come back on,keeps going in and out,I replaced the main board but didn't help.

Hi Bill,
this sounds more like a timing fault than a main AV problem, I would suspect a faulty T-Con board to be giving this fault, you could try to catch the fault in an image and post it here someone may have had a similar experience.

Vertical line on screen

Hi, This is a problem that's far too common among flat-panel and projection LCD TV's?and it's generally known as "vertical banding." If the lines are there all the time or intermittent but in the same location it is an indication of a bad panel. The panel driver can also be the cause of this symptom. Samsung panels have had issues with the connector that carries the LVDS signals to the panel itself, this is not serious and can be resolved and little cost. These faint vertical bars (often most apparent when the screen is totally dark or displaying a solid background, like the sky) are defects that occur during the manufacturing process, and while the worst offenders are typically screened out, many more make it to store shelves. Since you've pinpointed the banding and it's driving you nuts, also its under warranty, call the manufacturer and demand a replacement; in most cases, they'll capitulate and send you a new set, although you'll probably have to go to the trouble of packing and shipping back your defective TV (make sure the manufacturer covers your shipping costs). NO PICTURE HAS SOUND

When you say small do you mean shrunk up top and bottom as well as from side to side. You definitely have a deflection problem either horizontal or vertical. If the picture just shrunk top and bottom you have a vertical deflection problem. Do you have the service manual for your model? If not let me know and I will email you one. Describe the shrinking issue a little more and I should be able to give you some guidance.

RCA 52inch TV

If the screen control for the green picture tube is set too high, then the colors will be greenish, there will be green where there should be black and there will be fine curved lines (retrace lines) in the picture. If you feel confident then you can open the set and look for the focus block which has the 3 focus and 3 screen controls. One row is labeled Screen and the green control will be the center one. Try turning that control down a little and see is the green background and curved lines go away. If they do not go away then there is something more serious wrong. If you do not have experience working on projection sets then allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.
