SOURCE: Tone arm retracts before recording is complete (CR-245)

The nickel on the tone arm is the best solution that I have found. I taped a nickel onto the head of the tone arm about 1/4 inch back from the point of the stylus and then taped 3 quarters near the fulcrum to slightly counterweight the nickel's effect. This fixed one of the disc skiing that my Crosley had when I first got it. A new stylus is in the mail and I will try the new needle without the nickel and quarters to see if the original needle was just bad.

When inserting vhs tape, the player pulls the tape from inserted vhs

That is exactly what a typical M-Load mechanism is supposed to do. Once the VHS tape cassette is inserted, cassette housing cover will be flipped up and two arms will pull tape out of cassette housing to wrap tape around cylindrical spinning head housing that contains video heads and, if VHS HI-FI, audio heads as well. When stop or eject button is pressed, arms will retract and tape will wind back into cassette housing. What type of problem are you experiencing with unit? It may have nothing to do with M-load engaging tape around head cylinder.

Tone arm consistently retracts as if the record was finished

Without the make and model, I can't give you much at the moment, but if the unit is an older one, the problem is that the grease has gotten stiff and won't let the mechanism work properly. Please update this with the make and model and more specifics will be provided.

Tone arm goes to record but retracts to start position

Afraid I have no solution, but suffer the same problem. It comes and goes without a pattern. I'm happy with all other elements of this turntable I have successfully converted over 100 LP's into .wav files at this point.

If it's easier, email me at

Tone arm retracts before recording is complete (CR-245)

actual old units (not sure about modern nostalgics) sometimes had a lever that said 7 or 12 inches for 45's or 33's this would tell the mechanism when to set down the arm. If your unit does not have something like this then it sounds like an internal failure that would require it being opened by a tech or sent in for warranty repair.

Miele Dishwasher door release problem

I switched the dishwasher off at the mains and then back on again. At this point the plastic arm started making a noise like it was trying to retract so I pulled the door to help it along. The door opened and the arm fully retracted - much to my relief.

Record won't retract

If it isn't making any move to retract the tray it's probably the trip switch. If you look in the back and follow the mechanics under the tone arm you'll see how it closes a switch as the arm goes to the centre of the record. Clean the switch or adjust it.

If it is half returning the tray it is the tray stack all gummed up. Use Servisol Silicon spray or have it rebuilt by someone who knows how.
