SOURCE: car starter not working

look under the dash for a small silver toggle switch....this is a disable switch for the remote start portion of the system..you may have kicked it / bumped it with your foot, causing the remote start portion to be deactivated. Just flip the switch the opposite way and try again..
Also, there may have been a pin style switch installed under the hood...Check to see if it is bent or broken, if it is, simply disconnect it and insulate the wire that was going to it.
This wire is used as a safety to keep the vehicle from remote starting while the hood is up..to keep people from being injured if the remote start is activated while the engine is being worked on.
Have whatever shop installed the system replace your pinswitch if that is the problem.

SOURCE: I have a 1998 Chevy cavalier with Avital 3200

it sounds like its the bypass module. When it doesnt start the car goes into security mode and wont let it start for up to 15 minutes. I would check the bypass module to see if it still has power or has been reset, if its not something you can do, bring it to a local mobile electronics shop and they should be able to take care of it for ya.

Where in halifax nova scotia can i find someone to check my cool start remote

You did not mention the details of your vehicle but the most likely cause is not having a bypass module installed with the remote starter. The reason you may need a bypass module is to replicate the function of the chip that is imbedded in your key.

You installed this unit yourself, correct? You mentioned the bypass unit but not the remote starter unit. First, are all of the car's power wires connected...ignition(pink), 2nd ignition(green or white), accessory(orange)? There is a brown but it is radio accessory and not necessary for remote starter installation. Second, make sure that the ground for the XK06 is connected to the pass lock ground wire(black or orange with black) and not chassis ground. Next, check the ground when running(GWR, brown) from the XK06...make sure that it is connected to the remote starters ground when running. Now, it CANNOT be connected during programming, so make sure that you connected it AFTER you programmed the module. You didn't mention the remote starter unit but this wire is blue/white for Directed, light blue for Prestige and blue with black for some Code. Next, make sure that the ignition and starter wires of the XK06 are properly connected to the vehicle or remote starter's ignition and starter wires. You stated that the remote starter starts when you turn the key to accessory on...what about with just putting the key in the ignition(withoput turning the key)?

Your bypass module has to be reprogrammed if, you have the type that is programmable. If you have relays with inline resistors then they have to be replaced with new resistors. If the ignition switch was swapped out for a new switch, with a new key, the resistance is no longer the same. If the entire ignition harness was changed then the remote starter has to be re-installed at the switch(behind the radio).

It starts and runs, than shuts off 3 seconds later? i havent tried anything yet, and it was installed in 2002. jeep grand cherokee.

Do you have anti-theft system bypass module installed? Transponder key bypass? Try unlocking the doors with your factory Jeep remote (turns off alarm) and leaving the gray transponder key in the ignition cylinder. Then try activating your remote start. Sounds like one of the factory anti-theft systems is still active. Basically if the car's computer doesn't want it to run, the car won't run. You have to fool the car into thinking it is OK to start and stay running without the key and anti-theft device deactivated. You need to leave a transponder key in the vehicle under the dash to bypass that system. You can get a generic one for about $20. You MUST have 2 original gray transponder keys in order to program a third. There is a sequence of putting one key in the ignition, then the second, then the new blank key so the cars computer knows to allow that key also. If you do not have 2 original keys, then you need to go to someone that can program properly like dealership or some locksmiths or alarm shops. Then they usually charge about $100 for a second key. You don't have to have the key cut. That way if someone finds the spare transponder key in the vehicle, it wont turn the ignition cylinder. The anti-theft bypass module (factory alarm bypass) runs about $25. Bulldog Security or JBS model 791 should work for your vehicle. If you live in an area where car thefts are common, you may not want to bypass these factory security measures.
Hope this information helps.

I need to be walked through installing a Bulldog self learning anti theft bypass module 791 on 2007 GMC Sierra 2500 HD SLE. Thanks!

Here have information about #791 bypass module: Bulldogsecurity Model791

IF YOUR REMOTE STARTER IS CLICKING AND/OR FLASHING THE PARKING LIGHTS AND IS NOT RESPONDING TO THE REMOTE, IT IS IN SAFE MODE AND NEEDS TO BE INITIALIZED BY DOING THE FOLLOWING:
If you have a 4 button remote, you must ground the black/blue hood pin wire (raise hood if hood switch is installed). Apply 12volts to blue/black brake wire (press and hold brake pedal if wire is installed). Press and hold any button on your remote until clicking and flashing stops. Unit will now respond to the remote. Remove ground from hood pin wire and voltage from brake wire. If you have a 2 button remote, hold brake and press any button on the remote until clicking and flashing stops.

ADDENDUM
If you have an RS1100 or RS1200 and your vehicle runs for several seconds, shuts off, restarts, runs, and shuts off again, perform the following step: Connect the Black/White tach wire (from the 16 pin plug) to the heavy gauge White Ignition 1 wire and program the unit for Tach Mode (bottom of page 19).

Witch model alarm have your vehicle?

Good luck.

the issue is the securilock system I installed one in my 03. You need a spare coded key (one that starts the vehicle) and a Bulldog 791 kit. ths will store the spare key and tell the vehicle it is not being stolen. Its the only way unless you want to leave your key in the ignition. BTW, the Theft light is on when you engage the remote started w/o the key in the ignition, Been there.
