Please follow this steps and fix it. God bless you

1

Remove the screws or bolts securing the ends of the pedals to the crank axles. Slide the ends of the pedals off the axles. Remove any screws or bolts securing the left and right disc shields to the base unit. Pull or pry the disc shields off the base unit and set them aside.

2

Remove any screws or bolts securing the left and right side shields to the base unit. Detach the side shields and set them aside. Examine the interior of the base unit and locate the drive belt.

3

Pull the drive belt free of the crank pulley, flywheel and any other pulleys. Discard the old drive belt and install a new belt in its place. Turn the crank axles by hand to confirm that the belt will turn smoothly when the device is in use.Detach the ends of the pedals from the crank axles. Spread a layer of machine grease over the crank axles, then reattach the ends of the pedals.

2

Remove the bolts connecting the pedals to the swing arms. Detach the pedals from the arms, then spread a layer of machine grease over the axles on the swing arms. On some models, the bolts may also serve as the axles. Reattach the pedals to the arms.

3

Remove the bolts connecting the swing arms to the elliptical's upright. Detach the swing arms from the upright, then spread a layer of machine grease over the axles on the upright. Reattach the arms to the upright.

Testimonial: "Thanks. I will try it over the weekend an post back. I appreciate your help. It feels like it is hitting at the top of the left pedal rotation. It does not do it all of the time and it seems like I can effect the amount of clunk/resistance depending upon how much pressure I put on either pedal. Also, it is worse when the resistance is up higher."

What would cause my 26 inch avalon bicyle to make a clunking sound when shifting from low to high gear? And how do I fix it?

Are you going 1 gear at a time or trying to go from first to high. On some bikes you have to allow the chain go from one gear to the nest and up the line or it will make a noise.

The bike makes a loud noise when pedaling

I suspect the crankset or bottom bracket. It can have the illusion of tightness when not moving, but "clunk" everytime you pres on the pedals. I would first make sure that the cranks are tight on the bottom bracket axle. This will require a metric wrench.

When i engage eiather 1st or 2nd gear from neutral bike seems to grab and make a clunk noise, once rolling no problems

Older 4 speed transmissions were known for their "clunk" going into 1st gear.

However, even though you didn't give a model year, I'll assume you mean something newer than those.

If it "grabs" when going from neutral to 1st (bike wants to "jump"), it usually means the clutch push rod (under the primary cover's "Derby cover) needs adjustment, followed by the clutch cable.

As far as the leak where the cable enters the transmission, there is an "o-ring" seal that might need replacing.

Hi Freefaller2, I'm sorry but I just loaned my listening ears to the lead technician at your local Harley Dealer so he could take your bike for a test ride and evaluate the noise. Have a nice day.

When shifting it makes a clunking noise. what can i do to fix this

Unlike their lighter counterparts, Harley-Davidson uses big strong gears in their bikes. That's why transmission problems with Harley motorcycles are rare. But, the downside of this is that the clutch dogs in the transmission make more noise that the tiny little clutches in the other bikes. And, since you didn't tell me what year model bike we're talking about, some years "clunk" more than others. The early four speed transmissions in the 60's were notorious for it, But as the years moved on and Harley improved their transmissions, the later years are much less noisy than the early years. Still if your transmission is a late model and it is "clunking" more than you like, check the clutch adjustment to see if it's dragging. Also since you didn't advise me of the model and year, I cannot help you with this adjustment. If you'll look at the some of the answers that have been given out, I'm sure you'll find one that tells you how to adjust your clutch. If not, please repost and I'll answer that question.

Good Luck
Steve

Bike makes a clunking noise when it tries to start

Not so unusual ... when you press the button, you throw the starter gear into the engine causing a clunk noise. If it troubles you , have your Honda Shop check it out ... your bike is 30 years old now ...

Vitamaster excercise bike makes clunking noise when in use,

The moving parts like chain sprocket, etc where the friction is lkely to be created is the exact place you have to oil. Dont apply more oil than needed. Avoid oil to parts like brake shoe, etc where friction is neccessary for those parts to work properly.
