SOURCE: new 1/2 hp jet pump with tank not working

Your hose size is to small. Use a 2in black plastic line out to the lake. Inspect your foot valve, and
take your pump apart to see if you may have a pebble stuck in it, and remove the inner workings
and clean. Contaminates build up inside and need to be flushed out. Remember to replace the
gasket. Tighten all your hose clamps. Once your ready to start, spray shaving cream on your
fittings to see if your sucking air. I've been through it all and my pump works fine.

SOURCE: No pressure showing as jet pump runs

Correct. Either the foot valve, jet valve or leathers. If you pull the well, replace them all, and double the leathers.

CANNOT GET NEW PUMP TO PRIME,OLD PUMP WAS WORKING FINE JUST LEAKING AROUND MOTOR/PUMP HOUSING,BEST WAY TO PRIME NEW PUMP IS MY QUESTION

A shallow well pump needs to be primed. On the bottom of the well above the sandpoint there should be a foot valve (check valve) installed.

On the top of the pump there is a fill cap. Fill the pump until it is filled to the top. I

Replace the fill cap and start the pump. If there is air remaining in the well attempt a second time.

If the pump can not be filled it would indicate that the check valve is not working\ or the water level in the well is low.

I have a utilitech 1 hr convertible jet pump. My well is 58 feet. My foot valve is at 68 feet. My pump is primed. But it still won't pump water. And it us set up for deep well. Any suggestions?

I think you mean your well is 68 feet and your foot valve is at 58 feet. To properly prime a deep well jet system you must completely fill not only the pump but the entire casing also. This should take about 5 gallons of water. If you are not using anywhere near that much water to prime it may be the well casing is air locked which means the air in the well has no place to go and won't allow water in if there is a plug on top of the well adapter remove it and then try to prime system. Another method is to run the pump while priming to help break the airlock. Hope this helps.

HOW can I tell if a Goulds jet pump needs replacement?

pull the foot valve as it takes very little to allow the water to drain back out. Personally I would replace all pipes in the hole with heavy duty /high pressure plastic agricultural irrigation pipes

Will not prime

My pump didn't pump until I filled the 'suction side' pipe with water before I attached the pipe to the pump. The suction pipe needs a foot valve if you have a long lift from the water to the pump. Then pour water into the pump on the outflow side. Should pump fine . It'll purge the air out after a little bit if you filled the pump with enough water. I almost bought a relacement pump but then realized that the foot valve wasn't sealing and the suction pipe wasn't holding water. We have about a 8 foot vertical draw to the pump . Good luck.

Had to replace shallow well pump. Bought jet pump (used to have centrifugal pump), and installed it. Had to replace inline check valve, losing well prime. Priming pump does not accomplish the job. ...

Hi,
Aj, do you have a foot valve on the bottom of the pipe in the well?? The jet pump needs to have a foot valve to hold the water in while priming it... you also have to carefully design the system and prime it in such a way as to eliminate all of the air in the piping. A jet pump will not pull the water and expel the air like a centrifugal pump will...

I think the part you are missing is the foot valve...

Pump will not pump water, its runs

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

If this is a new system installation there can be a few reasons for the pump not pumping water.
1. The most porbable cause is that it is sucking air on the suction line. Check to make sure each and every connection it a good sealed connection.
2. The pump having never had water in it may have to be primed by introducing water into the outlet hole or remove the impeller housing plug and prefill the cavity with water.
3. There should be a check valve or a foot valve with screen at the very end of the suction tube.
http://www1.agric.gov.ab.ca/$department/deptdocs.nsf/all/agdex1143
Limitations
Jet pumps lose efficiency as the total lift increases. Total lift includes the vertical distance from the water to the pump plus the friction losses in the suction line and foot valve. Shallow well jets are not practical if the total lift exceeds 5.5 m (18 ft).

Pumping water containing sand will cause wear and leakage around mechanical seals. The mechanical seal on the pump shaft is water lubricated and water cooled, so the pump should never be run without the pump casing being filled with water. Air or gases in the pump will cause a loss of prime. Shallow well jet pumps must have either a check valve or foot valve installed on the suction line to maintain prime.

Foot Valve:

Check Valve:

You can use both if necessary but usually only one is required. The in-line check valve can be closer to the pump.

I will post troubleshooting if the site will accept the steps next post. Currently it says I have exceeded maximum length.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

How do you prime a sta-rite mse-6 deep well pump?

Take the pressure guage off and pour water in the hole untill it fills the pump, then screw the guage back on and cranck it up. You may have to do this a few times depending on how deep in the grownd the water is.

My Stay Rite Pump 1 hp, 230 volt model DS3HE - 01 runs, but does not operate my irrigation system with any pressure. I resume the pump has lost its prime, but have no clue as to what I might do to fix it?

pumps lose prime for a few reasons...bad foot/check valve, crack in the suction line are probably the two most common.. see if there is a threaded fitting( most pros put one on the pipe some where) on the top feed of the pump. open it up and add water til the pump fills up. if the pump is outside turn the pump on before resealing the fitting, otherwise resael the fitting and open a spicket outside. depending on your water table it could take some time to prime but in normal circumstances up to 20 minsif it does not prime you may want to consider hiring a pro!!

Have installed a 1/2 HP wayne jet pump, getting water ,

If we go down the list of possible causes, it may help;
  • All fitting on the new pump and jet are tight.
  • No break in the well line
  • FOOT valve operating OK. If the foot valve is not operating correctly, the pump can lose its prime and **** air into the system.
  • New pump has been purged of air(primed adequately)
  • holding tank has appropriate pre charge
  • bladder in holding tank not ruptured.
