How to remove front access panel on whirlpool cabrio gas dryer

The front panel never came off, I did not want to discinnect the gas, so I cleaned lint the long exhaust tube. Removing that lint allowed better air flow, and resulted in higher drying heat-my original goal.

Remove the lid screws. Remove the two screws that hold the sheet metal towards the front. This is easier to do if you move the mainboard housing too. There may be one or 2 on the inside mounting the face plate to the machine. Disconnect the ribbon cable off the mainboard located at the top of the dryer. You need to lift up on this to remove the head of the mainboard/display board. Three 1/4 bolts on the kick plate. Pull it down. Take two 1/4 in bolts off the bottom. Unscrew the two on the top of the door housing located behind the main display you've removed, but only turn them a little bit because they are meant to hold it in place and don't need to be completely removed. Disconnect the mosture sensor connector in the bottom left hand corner by the kick plate. Lift up on the door panel to lift the screw holes above the bolts you slightly unscrewed and the door will pop off exposing the inside of the dryer. It's a nightmare.

SOURCE: remove front panel of maytag MDG7400Aww gas dryer

You have to remove the front panel first to access the clip that holds the front of the top down. Instructions:

crosstip medium screwdriver
1/4 inch socket
5/15 inch socket

  3. Disassemble by taking apart the FRONT of the dryer:

    a. Remove the door and opposite side door plugs (crosstip screws)

    b. Remove the front panel - this exposes sheet metal bolts (5/16 inch) some with crosstip on left and right of unit. Set panel aside (right side) WITHOUT unplugging wires

    c. Unscrew all the exposed bolts.

    d. Top bolts left and right secure the unpainted metal hooks which secures the top of dryer. Unscrew these bolts and wiggle the metal retainer hooks off. Lift top and support to create 6 inch gap in the front (top unit hinges in back and has electrical connections - do NOT disconnect wires)

    e. Release belt from pulley by reaching left and under drum (this is out of sight)

    f. gently lift out drum and belt and set aside
  4. This has exposed the interior.

Should the dryer be placed on the front to make it easier to take the back off? That's what a repair person did and when they turned it back on it made a serious screaching noise.

There's no such instruction from the manufacturer to lay the dryer on its front when removing the back panel. The back panel can be easily removed with the dryer in upright position. Only leaning the dryer a few degrees is advisable by propping up the bottom edge, not laying it on any side, when access to the inside of the dryer is necessary. Otherwise, the internal moving parts will likely dislodge and cause problems like yours.

Gas dryer spins but no heat. where is the igniter so I can check it out?

The igniter is typically positioned at the front right side of the dryer. If your dryer has a front access panel or a peep hole, then you can open it or remove the small plastic plug to view the igniter working. If you do not have either, then the only way to view it is to disassemble it, which means you will not be able to test it when it's apart because the drum will not be supported correctly with the door off. If your igniter is working properly, you will hear it ignite the gas burner by listening closely to the dryer. Otherwise, listening to the igniter glow orange and not ignite may not make any sound. How does one remove the lower front access panel on a Whirlpool gas dryer mode TEDL680AN?

Use a putty knife to separate the smaller bottom panel from the upper front panel.
About 2 inches in from each side there is a spring clip. Press the spring clip with the putty knife while pulling out on the edges of the smaller lower panel. It hinges down once it is free from the clips.

I have a whirlpool duet gas dryer. how do I open

1. Unplug the unit while servicing inside.
2. Remove the lower kick panel under the door by removing the three 7mm screws under the bottom edge of the panel. HINT: Use a couple of blocks of wood to prop up the front feet of the washer to gain better access to the screws. Once the screws are removed the panel should drop down, and then pull off. If the panel becomes stuck, a slight tap on either side will dislodge it.
