What size drive is in it now? The user manual should tell you what size drive it can use. If you are not sure, the best thing to do is to go back with the same size. The brand does not matter. Is your hard drive IDE or SATA? What is the model of your laptop?

If it works on another computer then either the ide cable in the acer is bad/loose at either end or the ide controller on the motherboard is bad. I would try a known good ide cable first as if this is the problem it is fixable alot cheaper than a motherboard. Hope this helps.

You need a 2.5" 150 Gigabyte drive; however, those laptops are prone to a short in the serial connection from the motherboard. This is an almost impossible task for an novice user to change a motherboard and the cost is not worth it. I installed a new hard drive and although the laptop recognized it, it still will not recognize it and load the operating system. Tested drive on another laptop and it works flawless. The hard drive became bad from the short which you can sometimes hit the bottom of the unit and make it work long enough to backup the data.

The link below gives you the user manual. On the computer views is the base view which will show you the correct bay on the bottom of the computer. You will loosed the screws to that bay, remove the cover andl you will see the hard drive. Althought I have not removed this particular laptop hard drive, these drives usually pull up or back using a tab provided. The hard drive will probably have a cradle the actual drive is connected to. You will have to removed the old drive from this cradle and put the new drive back on the cradle exactly the way the old drive was attached,
I hope that this information helps and gives you a place to start solving your issue.
