H Slimline New Graphic Card-No new DCI output-Yes old VGA output

HELP!! I have bought a new graphic card (JATON Video-558PCI-DLP GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Low Profile Ready Video Card) to install on the only PCI slot of my HP slimline s7627c. The BIOS setup says that video is active through the PCI card (not the onboard card). Sadly, the DCI output does not work with the screen (HP vs19b) when using a DCI-to-VGA monitor cable. However, the screen does work with the standard VGA cable when connected to the old onboard VGA output. What do you think I am  missing?

Thank you very much for the prompt response. Are you suggesting that the new graphic card is active and in use even though my screen is connected to the onboard VGA output because the PCI card overides the onboard integrated card? If so, the use of my DVI-to-VGA cable not working on my screen (HP vs19b) is a problem of different nature. tht would mean I am using my card, but my screen won't take the DVI output. Am i correctly interpreting you?

You are missing nothing actually the graphic card over rides the onboard graphics and you have to use the graphic cards output ,only one hardware at a time for pci devices

Does the DG31PR motherboard support Geforce 8400GS 512MB PCI-E?

Yes, but check your BIOS and make sure the PCI-E slot is enabled.

Also, when you say doesn't start, you mean just the screen? Right?

I want to offload video from the cpu to the gpu. Is it possivle with this card?

That card is running the NVIDIA GeForce MX4000 graphics engine. Yes, it will offload some of the stress of the CPU onto its on board GPU. It will definitely help graphics performance.

This is a very entry level card, don't expect night and day differences to be noticed. Consider the JATON Video-558PCI-DLP GeForce 8400 GS 512MD 64-bit for a bit more power. Find it here

Windows 7 detects my video card which is xfx geforce 8400 se having a 512mb but only detects as 256mb video card?

When you turn on your pc press F10/F2 (depends upon the motherboard manufacaturer) to go to system setup, function will be according to the motherborad, check for an option named APG/APG Memory/Video Memory. and replace its value using up n down keys or page up/page down or +/- keys. and choose 512 value and maximum value is 256 or less than 256, your motherboard does not support the video memory more than it is selected.

Video card

I guess u must be aware that your graphic card requires/capable of:
  • Supports Microsoft DirectX 10 and OpenGL 2.0 with Shader Model 4.0 for Microsoft Windows Vista or XP
  • 1 dual-link DVI-I, VGA and 1 HDTV outputs; HDCP-capable
The only thing I can suggest is from the BIOS, change the setting of display to PCIE-*****-IGP sequence and then try the video output....sodeep
