HP Pavillion DV 6000. Turned it on and it shuts

Is heatsink connected to this problem? (sic) Most probably not, it is more than likely a simple Driver problem. Try to startup in SAFE MODE, press F8 at boot time. If this works you could run a "System Restore" back to a time before it went faulty. Or troubleshoot from safe desktop.

Hi,
Prepare to Diagnose the Computer
Perform the following actions to prepare the computer for troubleshooting a startup problem.

1. Remove the battery and AC adapter from the notebook.
2.Remove any optical disks (CD or DVD), and disconnect any external devices or peripherals such as USB devices, printers, docking stations etc.
3.Plug the AC adapter directly into a functioning wall socket.
4.Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

NOTE:After the battery, optical media and peripherals are removed, the Notebook PC may startup normally. If this occurs see Windows starts after the battery, optical media and peripherals are removed .

Symptoms and Resolutions
When the notebook stops responding or displays an error message, let me know what symptom that most closely resembles what is seen on the Notebook PC screen.

* Screen is blank with no cursor or text
*An error message is displayed on a black background
*An error message is displayed on a blue background
*PC stops responding on a red Compaq or blue HP logo screen
*PC Stops responding on the Windows logo screen
* The Microsoft Windows 'Advanced Options Menu' is displayed
* PC stops responding with a blinking cursor is displayed in the upper left corner of a black screen.
*Password is requested but password is forgotten or lost.
*Microsoft Windows starts, but a 'serious error' message is displayed that prompts you to send an error report to Microsoft for evaluation.
* Microsoft Windows starts , but the PC stops responding or restarts automatically
*Display is very dim during and after startup
*Microsoft Windows starts, but runs abnormally slow

Power-on password --Computer locked up solid and I do not know how to reverse the option..

So this is because you must have set the password while under a user. Unfortunatly there is not much you can do for this, unless you have also set up to have a 'guest' user. This shouldn't require a password to get in. Otherwisee, contact HP and they should be able to talk you through the step sof bypassig the power=-up password lock.

Google the OPHCrack Live Cd on another computer. download the cd image and then burn this cd. boot it on your laptop... this can take a while.... after it fully boots(which can take up to 30 minutes) it will display all windows passwords in the program window in the top let corner of the screen.... If your first boot off of the cd fails then choose a different video mode in the startup menu....

Lost password

I had a Thinkpad do that. It was a hardware password on the motherboard so they suggested replaceing the whole motherboard. There was one guy, I think he was in Australia, would hack the security chip if you mailed him the laptop. They are designed to be next to impossible incase your laptop gets stolen and you have sensitive data on it. My advice is DONT use the password on a laptop unless it is really sensitive valuable data, or if you never forget your passwords.
