Got a virus, Norton 2006 expired

Hello, I cannot get anywhere with my laptop for the above reason. I kept putting off the expired subscription and now it has caught up with me.

What steps can I now take?

How to Remove it Manually?Noted to back up your registry and system, and set a restore point before this spyware removal in case of a mistake.

1. Stop Security Center Processes through Task Manager
2. Remove all the files associated with it in the directory of Temp in Local Settings.
3. Search all the files associated with its files with Resource Manager and delete them.
4. Remove the registry entries generated by this program.

Re: got a virus, Norton 2006 expired

Go to and search for "avast home edition" or "AVG anti-virus free edition". Both are free and are excellent. Install and scan away. I used to use Norton exclusively but the past couple years I have had problems with it on a number of clients computers. I also recommend "spybot-search and destroy" and "adaware". These are also free and excellent. Many times these days what you think is a virus is actually spyware that is hijacking your browser and your system resources and jamming up your internet connection. Run the Anti-virus first, then spybot, then adaware. They will detect many of the same things, but sometimes only one program will pick up your issue and actually fix it. Spybot and adaware will also come up with a box while installing or running that says it detected your other spyware or antivirus programs and that it may cause a problem, but I have never seen any actual interference. If you still have a problem after this, head over to   there are amazing people there who will walk you through anything.

My hpg62 is slow and keeps locking

Give us more details if you really want help. What do you mean by Google and Documents quit working? What happens if you try to open your internet browser? What happens when you try to open a document?

You most likely have some type of virus infection. And if when you click on an application such as Word, Notepad, Internet Explorer, etc. you get a screen that pops up asking you which program would you like to use to open it, then your Program/File Associations has been changed by the virus.

A slow system is definitely a sign of a virus infection. Now McAfee and Norton will slow you to a crawl if you let your subscription expire and not renew it. So it's best to remove them (uninstall) if the subscription has expired and you don't plan on renewing it.

My pavilion dv7 17" won't allow me to install mcafee anti virus

Before you can do anything, uninstall norton antivirus, go to control panel and click on it, a list of items will come up, when norton shows select remove and wait for the program to uninstall, and restart the computer, go back in and remove norton live update and any other program pertaining to norton. If you have windows 7 go to my computer and "click" on top select uninstall, and follow the outline above. Now you should be able to install the program.

Apparantley i have a trojan worm in my lap top, i have norton and caled them they say i have a problem and my laptop is out of warranty and i have to purchase another one is this true

NO, you do NOT have to purchase a new laptop.

What the people at Norton probably meant was that your Norton anti virus software has expired and you need to purchase a new anti virus subscription from Norton if you want them to help you.

There are however other anti virus software manufacturers out there that are free and/or will allow you a 30 day trial period.

To help you clean out the worm in your system:

  • Find out the name of the worm you have on your system (your norton program will tell you this).
  • Go to this page:
  • Click on the link that has the same name as the worm on your system (don't worry about the I-worm or W32 part of the name, e.g. if your worm name contains navidad you want to click the I-worm/navidad link or if your worm name contains bugbear you want to click the I-worm/Bugbear.C link etc.)
  • Follow the instructions on the page you get to in order to get rid of your problem.
Hope this helps ;)

How will i remove the virus manually?

i hope you got norton off your system before putting AVG free on. Virus programs try to fight off other virus programs by postiong false virus claims to erase the other program. eventually they will kill your hard drive. You need a product key for a good virus protectant. Norton or CA offer good, reliable protection for your dollar. What i would do, is back up any really important stuff you have there, format your hard drive and install Vista again if you have the disc and then re-install it to permanetly delete viruses. Also your system maybe slow because VIsta needs at least a dual core processor and 2 GB RAM to work like a XP machine

I cannot open attachments virus scanner is currently not availabl

That is probably because a virus had corrupted the Norton Antivirus installed on your computer, or because the antivirus has expired.
Do the following:

  1. Check that Antivirus is not to be renewed
  2. Reinstall the Antivirus.
  3. Contact symantech
Here is the contact page:
Contact us - Symantec Corp.
