HITACHI Hard Drive Model# HTS541080G9AT00, 5400RPM, ATA/IDE
from an Acer Aspire 5100-3583 Laptop.
A few days earlier it just suddenly turned off. I turned it back on easily
and it first showed a dark screen with some message about checking the C
disk and it went on normally. Less than a week later, the computer went
dead and never turned back on again. The little pin-head size green light
on the front edge of the laptop is on showing power is on, but when you
push the computer on botton, nothing happens. I may be wrong, but I am
assuming the Hard Drive disk does not turn.
I have a 3 years old Western Digital ATA 40 Gig Hard Drive also from a desk top with un-backed up
data and un-printed family photos which went dead and I can't get the data back.
I wrote to Western Digital and said; If you take my C-disk out and place it in
an out-dated same capacity external USB Hard Drive and sell it to me at a
couople of hundred dollars, judging by the fact that there are today over
10 Million un-backed up dead Hard Drives in the US, you should easily make
a few $Billion from your outdated stuff. Isn't that good considering the depression
we are in? They cowardly said; ''...we don't do that, sorry!''
You tech guys, can't you do that and make a big chunk of that waiting few $Billion? Please let me know, I will be your first customer. Thank you!
Put the laptop in the freezer for a couple hours. i heard that can temporarily fix a problem with a Hard Drive. If it works then quickly back up the Hard Drive and get a new one and upload everything onto that one. Caution: i dont know any side effects of freezing the laptop so freeze it at your own risk.

I already had double ziplock bagged the HD and froze it for a week to no avail. I did that with the other older HD as well and did nothing. I think the disk must be physically rotated for it possibly to give you a temporary result and as long as the piviting pin is curved out of its piviting sockets nothing will help. But I can't see as to why the disk cannot be removed from its casing and be replaced into another HD, just like the way it was placed into this one when it was made.
