The mainboards go bad on these all the time. If you don't have TONS of frost in the freezer section. Pull it out and unplug it. Take off 9 screws holding a little panel on in the back. Disconnect all connectors and then the compression fittings holding the board on. Look on the back of the board for any burn outs located near the compressor relay. It's a black box, but you want to look on the side that has all the solder joints. You're looking for burnt solder joints.

I checked the board, no smells or signs of burning. Yesterday, I moved the unit outside, used the garden hose to clean the coils underneath and coils behind the panel in the freezer. They froze up again, but it is now 29 degrees in freezer after running all night. What next?

GE bottom freezer stopped cooling

The unit needs two fans running and good airflow, one fan outside cools the condensor coil and the other inside the unit blowing across the evaporator. The compressor must start up. The defrost timer stops everything and switches on a heating element to defrost the evaporator for several minutes. Please verify these conditions.

Put the old board back in. See what it does, from your post, sounds like it was working correctly.

GE Monogram side by side not cooling

I had the same problem. GE Man said that since the unit had been allowed to warm so much, we needed to empty it, unplug it, and totally leave it alone for 24 hours for any excess water to drain out. Then, we needed to plug it in and let it run with NO ITEMS INSIDE AND NO OPENING OF THE DOORS AT ALL for 48 hours. After that, we started using it again and it was Perfect!! I thought it was a lost cause, so this worked and didn't cost me a dime!!

GE refrigerator GSS25JFMCWW not dispensing ice but dispense water

I have the same problem with the same unit. I removed the ice tray and held the open door cut-off switch closed. I then pressed the lever to dispense ice. I hear a humm like power is getting to the motor but the motor is not turning. I hear a click like the selonid is engaging. I'm having to assume at this point it's the motor and I am going to go ahead and order a motor. I've found a motor for the unit at partselect.com for $65.54. Hope this helps you.

I have side by side refig model GSS25JFMCWW.I have to manually defrost by shutting off refrig. This model has defrost cycle, what would cause this cycle not to work?

Defective defrost timer, heaters, or defrost thermostat. Locate the defrost timer, rotate the dial (clutch head screw) clockwise SLOWLY until you hear one click. That puts the timer in defrost. Wait 25-30 minutes and the defrost should happen. Normally the timer will shift back to the cooling mode after 18-22 minutes. If it does not restart after the 30 minutes your problem is the defrost timer. Rotate the dial SLOWLY a little more and it should go back into the cooling mode. If you followed the above instructions and did not get a defrost the problem is in the heaters or defrost thermostat.
