Question about Whirlpool 25.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with In-Door-Ice Dispensing System
How do I remove the water pan underneath the fridge to clean it. It stinks!. I have cleaned the fridge, but still smells bad. I think if I clean the water pan, it may solve the problem.
You would hope it was accessible from the front, but no. You probably have to roll the fridge out, not breaking the water line, and get to the pan. You may have to remove the paperboard rear cover, usually takes a 1/4": nut driver. Vacuum out all the dust while you're back there.

the problem lies behind the freezer back wall panel, remove the panel, the ground (green) wire on the top left corner and the icemaker
all the ice build up under the evaperator will have to be removed, a good hair drier works well, direct the air at the center hole in the bottom of the metal panel all the ice out of the center hole will need to be melted out to be a success it will take a little time. you can pour some water down the hole and if you hear it going into the bottom drain pan then the tube is clear of ice.

SOURCE: i need help!
I had a problem similar to this as well, ungodly stench coming from under the fridge. I figured "must be the drip pan, easy to fix" totally wrong. I spend the better part of about 10 minutes trying to decide weather or not applying force to remove the from grill would break the damn thing or if it would actually come loose. After tugging like a maniac it did finally come loose. then i looked at the drip pan. It was taped down to the metal under cage. Cut the tape and Viola, came right now....NOT... I spend almost a full hour toying with this pan and the water filter and everything else and here is what i found.
To remove the pan you first need to unbolt the water filter holder and move the metal wire connecting it to the frame off to the side. (be very careful you do not pull the hoses out of the filter or apply too much pressure pulling and pull the hoses loose elsewhere) you then must unbolt the wheel that is in that same area as drip pan and water filter. Remove the wheel completely, (i stuck some magazines under the corner where the wheel was to come out of and it rested right on them.) now push the metal bracket holding the pan in place down until it no longer creates an obstacle and then bend the pan slightly as you pull it out. Don't bend the pan too much or it may crack but it actually slides out when pulled if "creased" in the center. It is a real ***** and there may be an easier way to handle this but this is my solution and the nasty pan in now nice and clean.
As far as spraying bleach in there goes i advise against it, the first thing i noticed when i got the pan out was that is said in big letters "CLEAN WITH WARM WATER ONLY." I though this may be more appropriate as a sticker in a place you can read it rather than on the pan you may not be able to get out :)

You can not acces the drain pan. Por 1/4 cup bleach in the defrost drain hole.
Two days later pour 1/4 cup vinegar in the defrost drain hole.

Hi, I can help you through this. Please get me a model # so I can look this up and advise you further. The problem sounds like a plugged drain. We just need to locate it.
