Question about HP Pavilion dv4000 Notebook
I'm Sorry to say but it could be that you need a new screen (easy repair around $195) unless you go to HP
Or it could be the built in video card (much harder to repair)
Do the lines appear from start up or slowly get worse as the comp gets hotter, if this is the case it is more likely the video card then I would contact HP to get a quote, But first,
Try plugging your laptop into an external monitor & see if the lines show up then

sounds like your power inverter is going bad. replace power inverter and see how that works. Other issue if not solved is probably lcd screen. Inverter's can be found cheaper used if you use the serial number on your old inverter for searching, seeing as how inverters are often used on many different of machines. FYI.
