Question about Sony Electronics - Others

1 Answer

Dvd write protection

I have a Sony DRD-GX120 DVD recorder. I use TKD DVD+RW medium which I edit - I remove TV advertising - and then copy the +RW discs on my computer onto JVC DVD+R. Latterly my computer programs - K3B on Ubuntu (and Nero under Windows7 tell me that the +RW discs are copy protected. This is a recent happening (the last 20 disc copy sessions out of perhaps 1000 done to date. I cannot see how or where I have added 'write protect' or how I can remove it - are you able to help? - John

Over the air broadcast has to contain a FLAG that makes it copy protected.

Testimonial: "Many thanks for advice. However - I can and do edit the RW disc from within the Sony RDR GX120 DVD player/recorder - I copy programmes from TV and then I remove the adverts. On around 900+ occasions I have then copied this RW disc onto a R disc using my computer. It is only within the last 20 or so occasions that I have been unable to make the copy from the RW onto the R media. The RW disc is registered as being either unreadable or write protected on each of two desk top computers and one lap top - it is not therefore a fault at the computer end of the final copying. If a flag is introduced by the TV companies - then - is this a recent ... like within the last fortnight ... introduction. Is it? If not, then the protection has to have been introduced within the Sony DVD player/recorder ... and - it can and does play and edit the RW media and also plays the R media that was copied before the present problem manifested itself ... so ... unless the flag is a very recent introduction then this cannot be the problem"

Problem solved - I shut everything off, pulled out and removed all connexions, scarts, plugs etc. replaced them., switched on and all worked as it should - copying, editing etc - so - must have been a dirty or bad plug/scart connexion within the system.

Sony Mini DVD dcr Camcoder cannot open by windows without hardware, it mean you must convert video data direct from camcorder using cable, you cannot copy or convert mini dvd to PC, so don't buy this Sony product (espesially camcorder using Mini DVD). Capek dehhhh.

Does your camera have other outputs, i.e., composite-video and L/R audio ?

If the disk "plays" inside your video-camera, then use a "video-capture" USB device, to "play" the movie into the USB device, and "record" from the USB device into your computer.

Sony RDRGXD455 have tried both DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs from Phillips and they do not work. I have tried VR and Video modes. Do you think Verbatim DVD-RW discs would work?

It depends on what you are trying to record on them. These machines have copy protection built in. So if they detect that they won't let you record on the disc.

I am trying to record with a sony dvd-r disc and the recorder don't recognize it. the only disc that works is the dvd ram 4.7 but that disc does not work on other standard dvd players. what is the answer?

According to the official description of that recorder, you should have no problem, this is from the description for the DMRES15:

Recordable DVD Media

Record your favorite shows onto DVD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM DVD discs. The DMR-ES15 is also compatible with DVD+R Double layer media and provides up to 14 hours of media recording.

Multi-Format Player

Don't worry about limited playback capabilities, the DMR-ES15 can play DVD, DVD-RW (VR Mode), DVD-RW (Video Mode), DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM, VCD and CD-DA discs. Also, you can play your favorite songs from CDs or MP3 files, and JPEG images.

I have an error 25 on my dvd recorder

Technically, E25 is a copy-protection error, but I have some additional background on this issue. On the one hand, it could be a legitimate copy-protection error - you are trying to record from a copy-once or copy-protected source - this is especially true if you are trying to record from a Cable/Satellite Box that has a DVR box - since copying to the DVR is considered the first "copy," the Magnavox will not allow you to make a "second" copy.

On the other hand, Magnavox/Funai players see all programs recorded in V mode (as opposed to VR mode) as "copy-prohibited". It records all +R discs in VR mode automatically, so the solution in this case would be to record on a compatible -R disc (or vice versa).

There are two simple fixes for this issue in either case:
1) If you are using a +R disc, switch to a -R disc. If you are using a -R disc, switch to a +R disc. Simply switching the disc type will "fix" Magnavox recorders (long story).
2) If your TV has a "Video Out" or "Monitor Out" (most TV's don't), you can connect a yellow video cable from the OUT of the TV to the Video IN on the back of the Magnavox. This will permanently resolve your problem by fooling the recorder.

Here is additional info about the type of disc to get:
IDiscs that have been tested and are proven to be compatible with this recorder:
VERBATIM DVD+R 8x, VERBATIM DVD+RW 4x
VERBATIM DVD-R 8x, VERBATIM DVD-RW 2x, MAXELL DVD-R 16x, JVC DVD-RW 4x
IWe strongly recommend for good recording quality:
TDK DVD+R 4x/8x/16x, SONY DVD+R 4x/8x/16x, MAXELL DVD+R 4x/8x/16x, SONY DVD+RW 4x,
MAXELL DVD-R 8x/16x, MAXELL DVD-RW 4x

Good Luck!

Recording from vhs to dvd

As long as you've got the DVD recorder set to the correct "channel" I can't see why it won't work. Why don't you just try it out on a DVD-RW first ? Use RCA cables from the VCR "OUT",  to the DVD recorders "IN" sockets and you'll be okay. If for some unknown reason it doesn't copy you haven't used a good disc. Probably won't copy anything with Macrovision(or other copy protection) though.

Dvd and vcr recorder

Well LG makes this unless you can find a firmware up then you must order some DvD-RW with CPRM this allows you to copy your shows once then recording over them.I got this from LG.It's a common firmware problem that started when digital signals got sent with copy right protections.
