If your remote won't work at all, then you'll need to get a new remote from Samsung to control all functions. If however, everything works on the remote but the volume, keep the original for all other functions and just use a cheap universal remote programmed to the Samsung code to control the volume. I had the same thing happen on a Sony THIB remote for a HT. I used a Scientific Atlanta to turn it on and off, as well as control the volume, but retained the original remote so I could get at all other functions. If you have to buy a new Samsung remote or if you buy one of those high-dollar universal remotes that program a zillion functions it will cost you big. Fair warning.

Well, you may have problem inside the TV, to find out for sure is to use this remote with SAMSUNG TV in the store where you bought it from, if it works, then I would demand them to give you a new TV since it may be a LEMON set which I would not want to own if it breaks down already, if the remote does not work in the store then ask the store to give you a new one.
