Start by trying this.
NOTE: Perform the following procedure to reset the Drum Cartridge counter after you replace the Drum Cartridge. Do not perform this procedure at any other time.

Any documents stored in memory due to an error condition will print after the error is corrected. The errors may be: 'paper tray(s) out of paper,' 'paper jam,' or 'out of ink'.
To turn off Resend Stored Fax:
The screen will display: Resend stored fax
The screen will display: Mailbox
The screen will display: Confidential (or Bulletin board)
The screen will display: Box number (20 max)

You need to clean the scanner. You can try doing the shading adjustment to calabrate the scanner but most likely the mirrors are hazed up. Since you can print fine you eliminate the laser.
To do the shading adjustment, you need to press in order,,, Menu # 1934, You will see a " T "on the screen, that will be the tech mode. Press the machine status, then go to maintenance, then scroll to shading. Place 5 sheets of white paper on the glass and then run the shading adjustment. turn the machine off and on, and run copies again. But most likely you will have to take the scanner off and clean it.
If you want to clean the scanner let me know, I will send you directions on how to do that. The mirrors in that scan head tend to haze up.

There are three typical reasons for fuzzy text
1. Y-axis drum rotation problem.
2. Wrong drum temperature.
3. X-axis movement problem.
Sometimes the y-axis encoder will get oil inside and confuse the sensors, causing fuzzy/blurry print.
Most likely the drum assembly will need replaced.

i have the same problem too with my pe220. fortunately, i just purchased a new one which i planned to give to it to a relative, and I was able to figure out that the cause of the "function impossible" displayed.
the problem just occured this morning and I have tried downloading and updating the firmware too, clearing the memories, etc but cannot get the copier to work (can't print thru the pc also).
i then borrowed the new toner cartridge of the new pe220 and installed on my old one and i was able to print and copy again. the problem then is due to the chip memory.
the problem now is how to reset the serial eeprom chip in order to reuse the toner cartridge again.
