Question about Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

My Magnavox 9410 turntable, tuner, and tape deck combo has a broken tuner display. The tuner is working because I can hear the stations but it won't tell me which station because the display is broken. If anyone can tell me how to fix this problem or where to order a new display from I would be extremely grateful.

What you're describing is common when the center LED has failed / gone out. If you're really good at taking a unit like this apart and putting it back together - and not too bad with a solder stick you could attempt this one yourself... It is a pretty intensive repair but not difficult for a good shop just time consuming. The part isn't too expensive either, just an infared LED... In fact, we've run a bit short on stock once in awhile and bought one of the off the shelf versions from Radio Shack which worked just fine. Good Luck Bill

Here are the links for the manual. I've lost my remote as well. I can't get my unit to recognize the digital audio input (optical). Very frusturating.

Reassembled my componet stereo but don't get sound from Tuner or Casset Tape Deck

It could be a bad interconnecting cable OR the fact that the connector inside the unit has broken solder joints. That is why these types of units that I have worked on often have many problem in that the wave soldering used in manufacturing is not made for a lot of abuse or thermal cycling. The problem can be solder by getting into the unit and applying the correct amount of solder onto the connector using good old Kester 44 not the cheap other stuff.

Aai have the following AKAI Audio Stereo System and no Idea how to connect them. Please help Akai Model AP-D210 turntable Akai model CS-F14 Stereo cassette deck Akai model AT-K110 Fm Am Tuner Akai...

In general, outs to ins.

If nothing else, get the manuals for the preamp and the EQ. You'll probably have to pay for them.

Google it.

Akai PR-A04 preamplifier << This is the control center and where everything comes together.

Akai AP-D210 turntable (ONLY to jacks that say "PHONO"
Akai EA-G40 Stereo Graphic Equalizer (in the Tape 1 Out/In set)
Akai CS-F14 Stereo cassette deck (in the Tape Out/In set of the EQUALIZER) *
Akai AT-K110 Fm Am Tuner (to the Tuner inputs)
Akai DT-100 Audio Tuner (to the Aux inputs)
Akai PA-W04 Amplfier (to the amp outputs)

* This will allow you to Equalize the Tape on the Record or the Playback side.

Read some audio magazines or websites. Get to understand Tape Monitor Loops.

Don't use excessive EQ.

I need manuals for hooking up my fisher stereo system model ca 871 amp fm 871 tuner cr-w890 tape deck eq 867 eq can not find manuals

I can't even find a reliable picture of the amp but it's not rocket science.

The Tuner output goes to, say, FM or Aux on the am, anything BUT Phono, which is ONLY for a turntable.

The EQ output goes to the first available Tape In; Input Comes from the same Tape Out. Select that tape function to engage it in line with any source and the downstream electronics (second tape, tone, volume, speakers).

The tape deck output goes to Tape In; Input comes from Tape Out. If there is not a second tape loop on the amp, nest the Tape Deck into the EQ's Tape loop. They always have at least one to replace the one they use. Select THAT tape function to engage it in line with any source and the downstream electronics.

Connect the RCA Outputs of the Tuner to the RCA inputs for Tuner on the amp.
Connect the output of the Tape Deck to the Tape Input on the amp.
Connect the input of the Tape Deck to the Tape Output on the amp.

Select Tuner on the amp to listen to the tuner.
Select tape Monitor to hear the Tape Deck(s).

Need to know if I can record from dvd to vcr on a magnavox ZV420MWB vcr/dvd combo

Magnavox ZV420MWB VCR/DVD Combo
The answer is YES YOU CAN! Take advantage of one-touch recording from videotapes to DVD+/-R and RW discs or from DVDs to VHS tapes. A variety of different inputs also let you record from compatible camcorders, external TV tuners or cable boxes.

CONSUMER ALERT: This model does not have a built-in tuner for recording TV programs and will not record copy-protected tapes or discs. For more information, call the Federal Communications Commission at 1-888-225-5322 (TTY: 1-888-835-5322) or visit the Commission's digital television website at: www.dtv.gov.

8 track player moters run but it doesnt pick up the music.

Sounds like either the head is open circuit or more likely the pre-amp for the 8-track has gone. Follow the leads from the head and it should lead you to the PC board of the amp. Check for broken connections first. You should get the pre-amp to buzz by touching the terminals where the head leads join. As you are getting no sound from either channel it might be the power to the board. But if you see a single IC it might have gone. For the power option (if the channels are seperate) suspect the largest electrolytic capacitor on the pre-amp board first.
By the way if you get a buzz from both channels the head has gone.

Having a hard time connecting various audio components

Yes, it is a little tricky...

1) CD Changer (output) -> CD input on Amp

this is tricky... this will allow you to record to your tape deck, and control the sound via the EQ:
2) Tape Deck (tape out / recout) -> TAPE PLAYBACK on EQ
3) Tape RecOut on EQ -> Tape 1 Playback on Amp
4) Amp Tape 1 RecOut -> Tape Deck Playback / Input / RecIn
in essence, your creating a loop starting from the tape deck, going to the eq, then to the amp, then back to the tape deck to record.

Your EQ has another set of LINE IN and LINE OUT - use the second Tape 2 on the amp to create another loop. This will
allow you to control the EQ for any of the other sources.
5) LINE IN on EQ -> Tape 2 RecOut
6) Tape 2 Playback on Amp -> LINE OUT on EQ

5) Radio Tuner (output) -> Tuner input on Amp
6) DVD/VCR Combo Output -> AV/AUX on Amp

7) PC Computer... you don't have room for this. You can either use the PHONO input, and you'll have to purchase a Line Level Phono Converter
or, get a Y cable and split the signal and share with some other source.

Hope this helps.

Low Audio

You need to connect the turntable to a PHONO input on your amplifier. Not all amplifiers have a phono input, if yours doesn't you need to get an RIAA pre-amp to plug your deck into & this connects to your amplifier.

This is because although the audio outputs on the turntable look the same as all the other components, they are very different. The signal has not been amplified up to line-level like tuners, CD players, tape decks, etc. You need to get this thin, weak signal boosted.

Your 3 options are:

* Connect directly to the PHONO input on your amplifier if you have one. If you don't:
* Connect deck to a RIAA amp (also called a phono stage) then connect to any input EXCEPT phono on your amplifier
*Connect the deck to a DJ mixer then hook the mixer up to any input on the amp EXCEPT phono.
