Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have two Sony DVD portable player one in Japan region spec and the other, the US region spec. I have been using them for almost a year or two. They both freeze often or even sometimes don't read the disc at all. When it heppens, I lightly shake them or hit them(I know terrible!) and it defreezes to play. I know nothing about these appliances but I have a feeling the there is a something to adjust the location of lense to lead the lense to be located in right position to read the dvd and it seems to me that the lense is not conveyed in the right way as I am playing the disc. Is there anything I can do or send them for a repair although people buy new ones rather than repairing it nowadays. Thank you for your help in advance!!

    Hello Welcomejee,

Thank you for your kind help once again.

I have looked into the downloaded repair manual and the parts I will be asking for is

9-885-103-13 TRAVERSE (346-0001-018) for FX810?? Is it "Traverse"?

Also, I was going through the website of PartStore.com and couldn't find the parts.

Can you please tell me where you would go to get these kinds of parts? Maybe to the Sony.com?

Thank you for baring with me!!

Thank you Welcomejee for your kind comment.

I have found the parts on PartStore.com thanks to you link!

Also, I am wondering if for DVP-FX810 has a same travers.

It looks to me, that it is a same model, the exterior is exactly the same in size, same battery pack, same remote control, and so on.

Also, do people fix these kinds of repairs by themselves?

I had hard time already opening the unit. I took all the screws underneath but couldn't open the unit.

Thank you for your time again in advance!

Hi,
Problem seems with optical lens sled mechanism that got stuck during playback and lens does not move towards next track to read it out so picture got freeze.

Please intimate model numbers of both Sony DVD Players to provide you more specific technical info like how to open unit and where is sled mechanism.

DVD or CD disc spins by spindle motor (center of disc) and laser lens starts track read and sled mechanism slide lens to read next track on that disc.

Hit "add a comment" button to reply.
Thanks.

Both units will be apart as per below exploded image..

Below is an exploded image of optical lens and sled mechanism is marked there.
Sony suggests to replace optical lens assembly.

You can download service manual of DVP-FX810 from Manual Zone for small fee..

Let me know if you need further info.

    New : TRAVERS (413-0006-164) 9-885-117-01
and same part will use in DVP-FX850 player too

    Hi Yoko,
Many people try to fix things themselves and some may feel uncomfortable to get things fix so they take it in for repair.

As I already said that both DVD Players are almost same but with little cosmetics changes and traverse assembly (optical lens) is same.

I think there are 22 screws at bottom part of player to remove lower cabinet and maybe there some latch locks too. Service manual has detailed exploded view about that.
    Thanks.

American Blu ray dic not playing in my malaysian sony bdp -s370

BD media does have region codes. But, unlike current DVD players, the region codes for BD media use letters instead of numbers to indicate a particular zone or region where the discs can be played.

The BD region codes are as follows:

  • Region A: North America, South America, U.S. Territories, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and other areas of Southeast Asia
  • Region B: Europe, Africa, Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • Region C: Asia (except for Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and other areas of Southeast Asia)

Pe 705 is saying wrong region when yo try to play a dvd

The solution depends on where you bought your dvd player, certain dvds are released in north america or japan, etc, and they have different 'region codes' - meaning they can only be played by devices that have a matching code. To clarify, if you bought your dvd player in america, chances are you can only play dvds released in north america. For more information on region codes please go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code
