Go to Settings and then to brightness.
Adjust the brightness setting.
It actually sounds like you have a bad LCD.
Possibly return to whoever fixed it and get another LCD

White line running through cente of screen

Hi there, If the line appears already from when you switch on your Laptop then it means your LCD/Screen is busy breaking. The white line is normally caused due to loose contacts inside screen and cannot really be repaired.

I've got black horizontal lines on my i pod..can you help?

What has happened is the LCD screen on the iPod broke in those places. Its just like breaking a computer screen it doesn't break all of it just parts of it. Here is how to fix it but it will cost a few bucks.
This is the screen for the iPod Video http://cgi.ebay.com/Replacement-LCD-Screen-iPod-Video-5G-30GB-60GB-80GB-/370500258424?pt=Other_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item5643894a78#ht_2329wt_1139
This is how to take apart the iPod and replace the screen. http://www.ipodhowtovideo.com/video/videolcdreplacement.html

My toshiba laptop has a thick white line down the screen

The normal cause of lines across the LCD of a laptop is a damaged video cable. The unusual cause would be the video card itself.

To determine which item is at fault, you need only attach an external monitor to your laptop's video-out, and then swap your monitor view to 'both' or mirrored (usually just the function key (FN), plus one of the Fkeys...look for an off-blue picture of a monitor on the Fkeys).

If the lines across the screen also appear on an external monitor, then the video card is damaged.

If the lines only appear on the laptop's LCD, but not the external monitor, then just the laptop's internal video cable is damaged.

Hope this helps.

White screen

A white screen is typically caused by a short in the logic board that is causing the Video Output to incorrectly display on your LCD.
You can replace the LCD in the unit, but more than likely this will only fix the problem for a short amount of time.
I have repaired 100's of iPods with this problem and replacing the LCD does not usually fix the issue.
I would suggest selling the unit AS IS for parts or repair on eBay or Craigslist.

THE SCREEN LIGHT ON MY CLASSIC 30 GB HAS GONE OUT

Sounds like the backlight of your LCD screen is broken. You can try to replace the LCD screen yourself, the part is available on any auction website. There is an iPod classic Repair service that can fix it for you. There is an iPod classic repair guide that can show you how to do the repair yourself.

Broken screen

Hey maddie13,

You should be able to have your iPod repaired under the factory warranty through your local Apple store, but please keep in mind that coverage for accidental and cosmetic damages may not be included. Typically problems such as cracked LCD screens, liquid spills and internal corrosion/oxidation may be viewed as accidental damage, but a final determination should always be made by a factory-authorized repair technician.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron
