Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

Unlayable disc!! Playing brand new Halo 3 the other night and in the middle of first mission 360 made strange loud whirring sound and stopped playing. Removed disc and checked for damage but there was none. Switched on again tonight to try again, just in case it was a one off but when I try to load in game it keeps coming up Unplayable disc. Tried a couple of different discs but the same message appears. Did have full circle of red lights before all this but think it was just a loose AV cable cos they haven't appeared since. Is there any hope for our console or is it doomed. Its only about 9 months old and hasn't had a lot of use. Hoping for a cure Mags

Hwhat does it mean when it wont read one game but will read another

it means the one that wont read is scratched, dirty or defective, my advice is to clean it if its dirty, get a cd repair kit if its scratched or take it back if its defective.

My Xbox 360 makes a loud humming noise while i play

The Xbox 360 does not like to be moved when playing a disk some of the mechanics may have misaligned or slightly out of sync this may be reason the DVD drive is making those sounds.

I strongly recommend you remove any visible dust from the 360 especially the sides and air vent holes using a vacuum cleaner. Once youve cleaned it place it horizontal (never on carpet) on a flat surface well ventilated away from other devices that generate a lot of heat.

As for the 'shredding sound', place in **** game into the 360 when it starts to make those sounds again gently tap the 360 on top (where the DVD drive is) until it stops making that sound. This doesnt always work but has for me and many others.

My experience tells me that dust can build up not only inside the 360 but also the drive itself which can lead disc read errors and the sounds and you mentioned.

Remember DUST and HEAT is the 360's biggest enemy and can cause RROD, 1 Red Light Problem, and disk errors.

Hope this helps..good luck!

Dirty disc error with halo 3 on the xbox 360

Thats very weird....

On both of those times you got H3, did you happen to move, or did the console fall while the game is play?

Do you normally have the console vertically or Horizontal?

Here is some info I found on

I would also try calling 1800-4my-xbox if its the console doing this, you can have it replaced, if they try to charge you money you can turn to :

I've heard good things about them.

But you may be under warranty which you can get free replacement.

Good Luck,
