Hi Grace,

The flashing code signifies that there is a fault with the connection between the ink cartridge and the printer - usually because either the tape is still on the cartridge or maybe some glue from the tape still on the contacts. In my case, I think the cartridge was simply knackered, so I threw it away and opened yet another ink cartridge. It now works fine.

If you want to test yours, simply take out both ink cartridges, and re-insert them one at a time. If you've put a working cartridge in the flashing will stop; if you've put the dodgy one in it'll still flash. Just replace the dodgy one.

Hello. Try removing all sheets of paper from the printer. Make sure to check in the feeder by peeking inside it. Clear any foreign objects. Open the printer cover, and remove the cartridges. Clear any foreign objects around the cartridge carrier. Close the printer cover without the cartridges. Unplug the printer from the power outlet. Plug the power back after 10-15 seconds. It should power on automatically. When printer asks for the cartridges, load them back in. Close the cover down. Printer will print an alignment page. Just let it finish print the page. When there's no more error, try to make a copy or print from the computer to check. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: My Lexmark 4 in 1 X5630 printer is saying carrier

I got an amazing solution to this problem that worked for printer is working now :)

    just sharing with you............

"Someone tried for hours to reattach my encoder strip, and finally figured out the way to do it after reading many web postings, and my own trial and error. The key is to use a "dental mirror" that you can pick up at a pharmacy or hardware store for about $5. (Perhaps a small compact mirror may also work.) And you need to focus light back there. (I used a head lamp.) The problem is you just can not see the small slot through which the encoder strip must be threaded from the front of the printer. It sits in back of the ink cartridges. This thin slot "tunnel" goes though a rectangular piece of plastic. You can feel the rectangular piece of plastic in back of the ink cartridges, and looking with the dental mirror you can see how small the slots are on the right and left side, through which the encoder strip must be threaded. After "seeing" these small slots using the dental mirror, you then can feel them with the tip of a fingernail, and know exactly what you are aiming for as you then feed the encoder strip through. (It doesn't make any difference of you feed the strip from the left or the right, but the down arrow end of the encoder stip must end up on the right when you later attach it to the wire tab.) I fed the strip "blind" after I had formed a strong mental image of exacly what I was trying to do, and now being able to feel the small slot I was aiming for with the tip of a fingernail. (It is tough working in the small space in back of the ink cartridges, and if you have really big hands and fingers it may be impossible. I did not want to use forceps or tweezers because of a fear of damaging the encoder strip.) The encoder strip then must be attached with the down arrow end on the right attaching to a flimsy looking wire on the right side of the printer. The left end of the encoder strip must be attached to a metal tab on the left side of the printer. You will need to hold tension on the encoder strip, and manually push the sliding ink cartridge back and forth out of the way as you attatch both ends. (It's probably a good idea to gently clean the encoder stip of all your fingerprints and any smudged ink with a tissue after you get it back in place. Also be sure to clean the metal bar the ink cartridges slide back and forth on, so you don't get error message 0502.) Be prepared for this to be a very frustating experience! You will be maddened by how many times it will take to thread the encoder strip though the slot, how difficult it will be to catch the end of the encoder strip on the wire and metal tabs, and how you will have to figure out how to hold tension on the encoder strip so one end won't fall off as you attach the other end. But once you use the dental mirror to see where you have to thread the encoder strip, and once you see the wire and metal tabs to which the ends of the encoder strip must be attached, then YOU CAN DO IT! It just takes persistance."

I have a four in one Lexmark x5630 printer and have replaced cartridges with brand new black and colour 36 & 37xl. The printer won't even print a test page - just says that cartridge error co

The problem could be due to a communication failure between one of the printheads (cartridges) and the All-In One (AIO) or by a short in one if the printheads. Please follow the steps below to identify and fix cartridge issues:

    1. Make sure the printer is on.
    2. Open the printer cover. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-In-One is busy. Note: If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the printer or unplug the printer from the power source and then carefully slide the carrier to the center.
    3. Remove both cartridges from the carrier.
    4. Close the printer cover.
    5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box behind the printer where the power cord is plugged in to, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
    6. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.
    7. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.
    8. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.
Try to contact the store where you bought the new cartridge(s) and have them replace it. You may also contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for assistance (especially if you're using genuine cartridges).

Lexmark does not recommend the use of refilled/remanufactured cartridges. They tend to degrade print quality and printer/cartridge performance.
Note that once a cartridge is refilled, it can no longer register its ink level.

My lexmark has been jam by so i was asking how can i open the backdoor for my lexmark X5630

Leading cause of paper jams is debris/foreign objects that accidentally fell into the paper feed area. Please follow steps below to fix the problem:

    1. Remove the sheets of paper from the feeder.

    2. Grab a flashlight and look inside the feeder for any debris or foreign objects.

    3. If you're willing and physically able, you may also turn the printer over. Any debris should just freely roll out from the feeder.

    4. If feeder is clear, place the printer back on the table, open the printer cover and remove the cartridges.

    5. Check the cartridge area for any obstructions/debris in the cartridge carrier's path or the paper path.

    6. If cartridge area is clear, close the cover.

    7. Rebrick (pull out power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds).

    8. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges and load some paper. Try to print again.

If problem continues, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.
