Re: stylus 500 flash

LIkely the flash module need to be replaced. A few eBay vendors carry them. These hve been removed from working cameras and can be a cheap fix. Instakllation isn't extremly hard - but can be difficult if you don't have the small tools required. Best seek the advice of a techie friend.

Re: stylus 500 flash

have you guys tried using other battery types like lithium and alkaline? if its not with the batteries, have it checked out in a service center because there might be a an issue with the charging for the flash.

It will not flash and it has only taken about twenty pics before the problem started

It may be a problem with a low battery. Charging up the flash uses more power than just taking pictures.

Otherwise, you may have changed the flash mode inadvertantly. Some cameras only have Auto and Off (you don't say what camera you have). Others have a forced mode that flashes every time. In Auto mode, the camera will only flash when it decides the light is low.

My S630 Samsung shows a code on the screen evry time I try to take a picture. The code is F2.8 1/45 and the little eye on the left that indicates the flash blinks for a few seconds.

your carera is set on shutter priority,,,
change it to auto
what its telling you is,, its set at a lens opening of F2.8 ( thats wide open ,,,so little or no depth of field in photos) ,(and a shutter speed of 1.45 of a second?) witch means its realy dark were you are??
the little eye flashing tells you to use the flash,,,
i bet you have left it set on flash photos only?
switch it over to auto mode and out of flash mode!

Flash Does not work. Can only take pictures in flash-off mode

The problem you are describing is a problem with the flash charging indicator switch inside the camera. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $83 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

Flash-Off Problem

Do you have the camera in the auto mode?
Did you check to make sure that the auto focus is not in the manual mode when the flash is turned off?

If the above does not comply, call the tech support for the camera.

There is also a possibity that there is a defect, or that the flash is part of the auto focus function.

Camera not taking pictures

The camera may be trying to tell you that your flash is turned off in Auto mode, but to get a proper exposure you will need the flash turned on. Try turning the flash on and see if that works.

Hope this helps!

It is something that seems to be a problem with the Stylus 410s. Olympus will not repair them unless they are under warrenty, I've tried. My best advice, and what I am in the midst of myself (I have 2 of these with the same problem) is to file with the BBB. Perhaps if enough complaints come through, they will begin to fix the stylus 410 defect as they should. Good luck. =)
