A DVD rom popped out of the optical drive as I was closing it and disappeared inside the computer. Now what?

Its possible that the Dvd drive is not connected to your motherboard, but it is connected to the power supply inside your computer, this would give the illusion that its working, as it would open and close and 'make noises' but it would not be connected to the computer system so its useless.
You will have to get someone to take a look inside your computer and check all the wires are connected.
Only possible problem I can think of.

If you have CD/DVD that is enclosed to the DVD rom from the vendor, you should install that specillay the Player that is build with the DVD decoder.
Any way if you wan to play movie using the PC with the DVD Rom, You can use the Player that have a multiCodec and all the Movies in the DVD can be play.

your DVD ROM's lens has became weak.
and it cannot be repaired.
But if you manage to open the DVD ROM clean the dust in it & it will start working agaain but be careful remember that no power should be attached to ROM.

You can use something sharp to stick the small hole of your cd drive. Then your disc should be enable to eject. Feel free to visit DigitalSupportTech if you need further help.
