SOURCE: washer won't drain, makes loud noise

This problem, or some variation thereof evidently is very common with these Whirlpool Washers!  I have same problem.  So far, best I have found is at  http://applianceguru.com/forum2/5958.html#
diagnosis by someone who knows.  What William Burk says there makes sense.  However, to get to the drive block there's quite a bit of disassembly required.  I am stopped because I cannot get the spanner nut off.  Hope this gives you some help toward finding a more comprehensive answer

SOURCE: Maytag Performa PAVT920AWW washer makes a squealing sound

i am sorry but i had this problem happen before with my customer maytag performa, what i found out is that the brakes become crystallized, causeing a squeaking noise, remember in agitation, the brakes stops the the drum from spinning, what i advise you to do is change out the breaks or take the brake pads and rub them with sand paper

thanks

  1. 1. Check for drum bearing failure if your washing machine is noisy on the spin cycle. Drum bearing failure is common when the bearing seals start allowing water to enter. You can take the belt off and spin the drum by hand, and if the drum rumbles, replace the bearings.
2 Turn the drum by hand and listen for loud noises. If the drum itself is split or the 'spider' is corroded, broken or has come apart from the back of the drum it will create a loud noise on every turn of the drum
    3. Look for obvious dents and creases in the drum or look for coins or small objects stuck inside the tub underneath the drum when a horrendous noise is made while clothes are in the tub.
    4. Clear the water pump from obstructions like coins or small objects when a noise occurs while the washing machine is emptying water.
    4. Remove the sump hose and look for bra wires if you hear a light scraping noise when the drum is turned by hand. You can also check to make sure a wire isn't poking out of one of the holes in the drum. In this case, you can pull the wire out easily with pliers.
    6. Take the belt off and run the motor alone if you hear a high pitched squealing noise to check for motor bearing damage or wear. If you still hear the noise without the belt, it's the motor bearing.

SOURCE: how can I make the Maytag Centennial 3.2 agitate

You really can't without redesigning the washing machine.

SOURCE: I have a Maytag Performa

My Maytag Performa makes a grinding sound when it agitates. When it starts to dump the water it makes a loud grinding on metal sound... really loud. What is the problem and how much to fix?

I have a Maytag Centennial washing machine 2010 model, don't see number. The agitator does not turn.

Is the base of the agitator turning but not the top? Or is the base not turning either. If base is moving back and forth, then dogs weren't installed correctly, or agitator was reassembled incorrectly. If the base isn't moving back and forth, then the splines inside base have stripped out and base will have to be replaced.

Maytag A512. Screeching noise smokes. Belts replaced, water pumps fine, spins. It does not agitate but the agitator is fine. Not stripped. What other problems? Transmission? parts to fix it?

The agitator shaft, not the agitator, is corroded and does not move freely.Smoke is the overheated belts, you need a transmission overhaul, boot seal and tub bearing as well as replacing the agitator shaft, again, NOT the agitator.

I have a Maytag washer that the agitator is not working , I makes a squealing noise, How do I repair this? Thanks

Your problem may be a seized water pump with the motor turning the drive belt on a water pump pulley that is not turning (belt squealing). Or the noise could be originating from a water pump that has a noisy/bad bearing. If the pump pulley is turning and making the noise, you may be able to lubricate the pump shaft with some quality shaft lubicant (no guarantee that the noise will cease)! If other problem, contact an appliance service company.

Maytag model LAT9604AAE; in regurlar cycle stopped

You should be able to rotate the trans pulley in either direction one way is agitate the other is spin,if the trans turns ok try turning the pump.
If the trans will not turn in one direction, check the holes in the inner tub to make sure there is nothing dropped through any of the holes(nails, screws, bobby pins)
If the pump won't turn look for similar things stuck inside it,bail or pump the water out before removing hoses..

Very loud noise when washer is in wash mode,

IT COULD BE SOMETHING IN THE TRANSMISSION. DOES IT AGITATE AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO? IF IT DOESNT, I WOULD SUSPECT THE TRANSMISSION, IF IT DOES, i WOULD START BY LOOKING AT THE PUMP. THERE IS A PIECE OF METAL THAT HOLDS THE BEARING CENTERED IN THE PULLEY OF THE PUMP. OVER TIME, THE METAL CAN COME OUT AND MAKE CONTACT WITH THE BOTTOME OF THE PUMPS MOUNTING PLATE CAUSING QUITE A NOISE. ALSO, DEPENDING ON WHEN YOU BOUGHT YOUR WASHER, THOSE MACHINES HAD A TEN YEAR PARTS WARRANTY ON THE TRANSMISSION.

Agitator now moving VERY slow one way, making loud grinding noise

Hi, this is a bad transmission gear box that is stripped at the moment. i recommend purchasing a agitator kit and a new transmission Assembly and clutch as well. this will fix your issues

Started a load of laundry water filled fine started washing and agitating and then heard a weird noise like something got stuck and went and it sounds like motor is running but will not agitate or spin and...

Please give a make and model of washing machine. I suspect that something has stripped out between the motor and the transmission, which is the noise you heard.
