Page 72 and 73 of your advanced manual explains how to use this feature.

Basically you can have the camera selected to any mode on the mode dial - press Ok - right arrow to Mode Menu - highlight camera tab and left arrow over and then down arrow to the symbol that looks like a clock - this is the self timer option. right arrow over and make sure you select it to on - and then press ok.

Press the shutter button fully to
take the picture.
• Pressing the shutter button halfway locks
the focus and exposure.
• The self-timer lamp lights for
approximately 10 seconds, then starts
blinking. After blinking for approximately 2
seconds, the picture is taken.
• The self-timer mode is automatically canceled after one shot.

If you use a memory card in the camera, you can use a separate card reader to download your pics to a folder you create on your desktop. Then, you don't need the driver.

I have a fine pix digital camra A340 do not have instuction book .Need to know how to set the timer to take pics where you jump in the picture later

Press Menu/OK. Use the zoom rocker to select the icons in the bottom of the monitor. 2nd symbol from the left is the selftimer. Set Selftimer to ON and press the shutter button. It will give a 10 secs. delay. You can cancel the selftimer with the Disp/back button. The selftimer has to be activated for every shot.

I put the xd picture card in my laptop and unable

Try to use the usb cord that came with the camera to transfer photos over. Don't forget to install the driver for your camera.

The 2nd link is the manual in .pdf form, and there should be a usb cable that came with your camera and if you lost the cd-rom then you can download drivers for free from the olympus support site (1st link).

Good luck on retrieving your pictures.

Camera wont load pics on to computer using usb port

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa.
