Recirculation fan does not pull in air/steam/smoke

"re-circulating" fan does not pull air into the bottom of the microwave. it only blows air at the top, so no filtering is occurring. i have had 2 technicians out, both agree it does not pull air in but have been told by customer service and tech support that everything is normal. as is, the recirculation feature is completely useless. 300cfm is more like 0 cfm.

It's mounted to the underside of the cabinets and to the wall by a mounting bracket. It's on the factory setting for recirculation (no outside exhaust or ducting).

All of these answers may be the problem however here is another and the only fix would mean you probably will have to run the fan every time you run your microwave. I just bought a new whirlpool otr microwave, the fans were set to blow into the kitchen not through exhaust... However I would have to hold a pan inches from the filter to see anything being pulled upward. It's a poor design that has next to no air flow around the inside of the unit and other vent areas where air can me sucked from so your basically drinking a soda with a hole in the straw. You could take it apart adding come curved baffles inside where there are squared edges even find a way to seal off other vents and holes where air is coming through which will overheat it when you cook something for a long time unless you run the fan.
Best suggestion when buying a new one is have them turn it on and see how much air flow it has.

The issue is that the fan on that unit is a reconfigurable fan. If there is a vent, you install the fan one way, if there is no vent pipe to the outside, you install the fan another way. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/294916/Maytag-Mmv4205.html?page=9#manual

SOURCE: exaust fan has weak suction on maytage mmv4205baw

This is due to poor air flow, either to a blockage or a problem with the internal cooling fan or hood vent exhaust fan.

Are the grease filters or charcoal filter clogged?

You may want to check your owner's manual for info on checking the filters. Grease filters can be cleaned, but charcoal filters must be replaced about every 6-12 months.

The installation manual will tel you if there's some error in the installation setup.

SOURCE: fan just circulates air instead of exhausting the air outside

The exhaust motor was not installed properly - it has to be turned 90 degrees so that the blower openings face up instead of the front. Whoever installed it didn't read the directions:)
Unfortunately, the unit will have to be taken down from the wall to correct the motor.

SOURCE: I have a Whirlpool MH6130XEQ-0 microwave that doesn't heat food

With the symptoms you have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.

The diode is a fairly cheap fix, and your magnetron is still under the part warranty, but you would have to pay labor.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

d:%5cele%5crepair%5cmicrowave%5cge_hotpoint%5cmini_manual_behind_grille_small.jpgdee77f7.jpg

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html

If within the magnetron portion of the warranty (5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (1 year), the manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

If nothing else, you can save about $50-75 if you remove it from the wall and take it to a Whirlpool-authorized servicer.

You can find your nearest Whirlpool/Maytag-authorized servicer here.

Accessing some components for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

When turning Fan on (any speed), top vent grille blowing lots of air, but not pulling air underneath

some microwaves vent to the exterior. check outside for a vent. If it is a recirculating model, perhaps the filters are plugged, the vent pathway is blocked (packaging material) or a loose panel at the back so that the exhaust fan air is leaking out somewhere else. I don't know what else it could be unless the fan is loose on the motor shaft and the fan motor is running but the fan blades are not moving air.

My GE microwave convection oven JVM1790SK 01. It has started to make a load grinding noise, and is sparking above the cavity area, otherwise it operated properly. When I remove the fan assembly part...

The fan is for air circulation regulation, e.g. preventing steam (and smoke) from building up inside, and also stops air pressure from building up inside so you won't get a blast of steam coming out or worse. On the convection side it heats the food faster and more evenly. You will need to replace the fan assembly to keep the microwave safe. the noise and sparks are probably due to spent bearings and / or a dislodged fan scraping against another surface or something getting in the way of the fan

Ge spacemakerxl microwave jvm1650 vent is not drawing air

It is possible, you have removed and checked the filters, still the intake is low even without the protective filters. The system will need to be taken apart to find the opstruction, or as you said a hole in the venting mechanism.

There is steam inside the microwave when my food is heating up. Is this dangerous?

If the steam is not leaking out of the microwave it is no problem. Steam is normal when you heat moist items. If it is leaking out you need to replace the door seal, but steam will not start a fire.

Partial venting

Are you running the vent fan whenever you cook on the stove top? You should.

And you should run it on high if you're having steam problems.

Otherwise, you'll need to do something like use a small counter top fan to help circulate the air better.

Please let us know if we can help further.

Vent on Whirlpool GH5184XP

There is a diverter in the vent area. You can pull it out and reverse it so that the exhaust blows up and not out into the room. The owners/installation manual will show you how.

Steams

It could be a problem with your cooling fan or hood fan not venting the cavity enough.

To help you most effectively, it's better to post your full actual model number. But I'll give you the general info for now.

If this is a countertop model, you should feel strong air flow coming out from the back.

If it's an over the range model, you should hear the internal fan blowing when you hit Start and see the steam moving around while it's heating.

If the fan is not blowing and air is not blowing or if the next system is not working or blocked, you will get more steam than usual and the magnetron will likely end up being damaged.

Some steam buildup inside is normal, but not too much. It's kind of subjective, but it's dependent to a lagre degree on that air flow.

Most newer models don't have any gaskets to worry about, but older models may have deteriorated gaskets which limit the air flow.

Please write back with more details if you need further help.
