Question about Gateway Nv55s17u Laptop
Hello, I own a Gateway NV55s17u laptop. A while back, I decided to put a HDD password on my Gateway for security purposes. After a while, I became busy and didn't have time to use my computer. When I was finally able to use my computer (About a month later), I forgot the HDD password. Is there any way to unlock the HDD password without having to pay 60-500$? (Any free/sort of free way?)
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

New users get 2 Free calls (no credit card required) and instant help on almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, appliances, handyman, and even pets).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

The difficulty of unlocking a HDD password will depend on how old and what model the computer is. You might want to try to crack it before trying other methods. Removing the HD will not fix the problem either. Your best bet is to contact a company that can do it for you. Here is a link to one such company with more information as well:

The only thing I can come up with is to clear the bios by shorting the mainboard at the "Bios Clear" point.
Other than that have a loo at this website: http://rahulhackingarticles.wetpaint.com/page/Clear+BIOS+Password,+All+tricks+!
Good page, interesting reading if your in to Tech.

If the password is on the bios then this won't help, but if the password is on windows in the Log On Screen then try this win Xp and win Vista only:
When booting Up teh machine press (F8) that will give many options Select "Safe Mode" then wait until boots up and there will be an administrator account log into that acount and then go to "Start>control pannel>User Accounts then choose an account and remove the password . Hope this helps you

There isn't one, either take the laptop apart and remove the CMOS battery for 10 seconds or download and burn hiren 15 to a CD and use one of the CMOS password wipers.
