You response to my problem was not even close to my problem.  The computer firewire board is operating OK.  Nikon scanner does not work on another computer either.

Can I replace the firewire board on the Nikon LS 4000 ED scanner?????

Now thats as daft as the last premium problem I answered.

Seriously though, have you got another firewire device that you could plug your port into to prove the port. Or have you another port to plug your device into to prove the failure point one way or another?

If the Firewire port is on a PCI card then open the PC and remove the card. If you are lucky there will be just a 20mm fuse to replace.

    Good luck.

Sorry for misunderstanding which port you were talking of.

You will find that the port and control circuitry of the scanner are all built on one circuit board. There is likely a blown component on this board, with luck it will only be a fusible link or resistor near the socket to replace otherwise the Firewire interface chip may have fried.

Nikon Super Coolscan Jam Solution

Do you find your older slides, cardboard slides, or irregular slides jam in the Nikon SF-210 Slide Feeder for your Nikon CoolScan 4000?

Try this solution:

Take a AAA battery and place it in rear, left side of the slide feeding tray as pictured below:

The slides will fan out nicely, and your Nikon CoolScan will no longer try to load more than one at a time. Instead it will load them one at a time, 50 per tray, and you can actually walk away from it and let it do its job, just the way you intended to when you bought the SF-210 slide feeder attachment!

I hope that helps.

Recently upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7. Where can I get correct drivers to run with my Nikon Super Coolscan slide scanner LS-4000 ED model. I have Nikon Scan 3.0 twain software. Stu Milligan

Hello there.
This will help you if you have 64-bit Windows 7, because officially, there is not windows 7 64 bit driver.
Just read and do everything.
Otherwise, if you have windows 7 32bit click here:
To check bits, go right click on My Computer, Properties, and you will see it.

My Nikon CoolScan 4000 is not working properly. All images come with a green shade

I had the same problem with coolscan LS 50 ed, but the chromatic dominant was blue instead. What you have to do is to perform a p.o.s.t. procedure: 1) swith off the scanner and unplug it from the PC; 2) switch off the PC; 3) remove the film-holder from the scanner; 4) switch on the scanner; 6) plug it back to the PC; 7) switch on the PC; 8) insert the slide/film holder. It should work now...

Download the Nikon scan application here: Nikon Scan

There is also a firmware update for this model. After installing the Nicon Scan software that includes the scanner driver (ensure that scanner is recognized), do the firmware update.
Follow instructions on site and do not interrupt firmware update procedure, or that may damage the scanner.

Trouble ejecting slide from SF200 nikon coolscan 4000 ed

open the case of the scanner, and check to make sure that the ejection mechanism is not malfunctioning, or jammed someway.  If this is not the problem, try using thinner slides as thicker ones could also cause this.  If all else fails try un plugging the scanner for a few minutes, and try again.

USB cable from scanner to new Dell Optiplex 755

If you look carefully at the cable, you will notice it is a firewire cable (IEEE1394), not USB. You will need a firewire interface on your computer to use the Nikon scanner. It will not work with a USB port.

Firewire. USB2

Either or is my understanding- the scanner will accept either. I can see no need for both.
