Question about Nikon Coolpix 4600 Digital Camera
I get a ''system error 10'' when I turn the camera on. I changed the batteries. I took the batteries out for 24 hours to let it reset. I changed the memory card. Still I get the same error 10. This is a Nikon cool pix 4600.
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: Nikon Cool Pix 5000 will turn on
your description says will turn on..but it looks like you describe will NOT turn on.. a dead unit.. ok, i have same issue and lucky enough to have TWO of these, the second one with a very different problem. I will troubleshoot between the two and get one working, will post results back here.. preliminary web search suggests unit has a DC to DC onboard voltage converter and DOES incorporate a fuse or more.. hopefully only a fuse is blown.

Hi I found this info on the Nikon Australia website:
"System Error" or "Lens Error" message in LCD monitor Question My COOLPIX camera displays a "System Error" or "Lens Error" message. What should I do? Answer Having a "System Error" or "Lens Error" message displayed on the camera's LCD monitor would generally indicate that your camera needs servicing. A System Error is a general error which can be caused by many things: lens problem, CF Card problem, general camera failure, etc. To troubleshoot, please try the following:
Seems you may just have to remove and replace the battery - sort of like a Windows Restart to fix a computer problem! - this would reset your camera's memory.
Hope this helps.

When there is nothing happening, it is hard to understand what is wrong.
Do the menus cone on or anything turn on?
If the camera comes on at all, then try setting all the menus to default.
If nothing comes on, no lights, nothing, then you are stuck.
If it will not turn on at all, I would recommend selling it at a site such as Ebay for repair parts, as is. At least you can get some money back, and buy another camera.
Also you may want to consider to call Nikon and trade-in or trade-up your camera for a re-furbished unit (a re-furbished unit will have everything just as it came from the factory. The support-repair department would be the place to get the number and information.

SOURCE: what do you do when
SD type cards have a little switch on the card that can write protect or "lock" it. Take the card out of the camera and check this switch. To unlock it, it should be moved towards the edge of the card which has the electrical contacts.

Depending on what model Coolpix you have, look for either "Copy" or "Backup" in the Setup or Playback menus. If you can't find it, please reply to this post specifying the model.
