If you have experience on disassembly of developer and ITB then proceed else take the help of experienced person.
Check the developer cleaning blade of the toner cart. also check the drum cleaning blade and ITB cleaning blade.

Printing in black is not the same shade through out the paper

This is a very common problem with the Samsung CLP 300 and CLX 3160 printers. What happens is that the toner or developer blades become coated with toner. The developer blades meter the amount of toner that the printer uses to make the image on the paper. When the blade become blocked, the image become faint. To fix this problem, you and either replace the imaging unit for about $100 or you can clean the blades yourself. I have posted instructions how to clean them on my Tips section.

Printing is not uniform across the page. It is heavier at each end

This is a very common problem with Samsung CLX-3160 and CLP-300 printers. The real problem is that the developer blades get dirty with the toner. Buying a new imaging unit will only fix the problem for a short period of time then it starts to get buildup on the developer blades.

If your printer looks like this:
640d9cb.jpg

Then you need to clean the developer blades. In the image above it is the black blade that need to be cleaned. If there are streaking on any other color, then also needs to be cleaned.

To clean the developer blades, look to this link. http://losingambition.com/clp300imagefix/ It describes how to clean them. It only takes a few minutes to do once you get the developers out of the unit. Just be careful when you clean the edge of the blades. You need to make sure that the residue is completely removed from the edge. Also be sure that when you reinstall the blade that the little foam does not get trapped below the blade. Otherwise when you print the side where the blade is not properly installed will have too much color.

If you are afraid of messing your printer up, then you need to buy a new imaging unit. They go around $100.

Black ink is so light I can barely see it. Replaced cartridge and nothing helps.

You almost certainly need to replace the drum, which runs about $95 and is guaranteed for a year. It's considered a consumable, just as the toner is, but so far I've only found them online...I've been told by Office Depot that the drums that come with the machines aren't of as good a quality (and don't last as long) as the one you'll buy after that
