Re: emu 1820m all audiodock lights stay on

Replace the mlan cable provided with a short length cat5 cable - this sorted out my problem.
The noise damping rings on the mlan where too much - the cat 5 cale is fine just keep it away from sources of noise such as high voltage cables, fans etc.

EMU 0404 PCI express. Will not start with computer. I Have to start PatchMix manually on every start-up. John.

When you do have ParchMix up and running, single-right-click the blue striped icon in your system tray (lower right corner of screen) and choose Restore Defaults from the popup menu. By default, PatchMix should start each time your computer is booted up.

Can the EMU 1212m work with the EMU 1820m Audiodock?

If I remember correctly you'll have to choose between the 1212-board and the 1820m-dock. The internal 1212-board is not needed if you have an 1820 and, as the line inputs/outputs on the 1212 appears as DockA/B and line 1 R/L on the 1820.

No lights on dock, dock doesn't start

Replace the Mlan cable supplied with the EMU 1820M with a regular short length CAT 5 Network Cable - It is an unresolved power issue - this sorted my problem out.
Just remember to keep it away from sources of electrical interference.

I've got the same damn problem

Download and install the latest V2.1 Patchmix DSP Application and also the V2.1 Audio System Driver from EMU at

Have you been downloading and applying any updates from Microsoft recently? If you have downloaded and installed both of the above then you should check the function of the board via System manager and Device Manager to see if there are any errors or conflicts showing and if so resolve them.

As you say it takes a long time to load initially you may want to uninstall the application and driver then run a registry clean to make sure that there are not multiple instances of the EMU in the registry as this will cause contention issues that could exhibit the behaviour that you are seeing. Ashampoo at will do an excellent job if you need one you can do it for free for 30 days.

You may also be experiencing a lack of memory in the system – you can never have enough, your hard disk may be nearing capacity and also may need defragmenting – again the Ashampoo will do an excellent job. Also take a look at how much swap space is allocated and increase its size and change it’s location to a quiet disk if you can – preferably not one being hammered with sound data.

Then reinstall the EMU driver and app.

Us-144 working only on high latency!

Even my q6600 clocked at 3.6 Ghz gives me 12ms latency. It turns out the tascam highest latency is 12ms also on my p3 3.0 ghz pc. I haven't tried the tascam on my q6600 - I use an Emu 1820m on that. But try testing the tascam on a really fast computer. It's probably your dell's middling motherboard that's the slow down as well as all the extra stuff installed on dell's and especially notebooks that are robbing the usb bus of it's bandwidth. In most cases with the tascam, it's the pc or a low latency setting. If you want a great card for serious work: The EMU 1616m pcmcia card is a great card! Even SoundonSound loves them. Emu just makes great soundcards that rival any card out there for the best prices. Emu also gives the most control via it's excellent PatchMix software, but Patchmix does require an average IQ and about 10 minutes of reading.

E-Mu 1616m Mirco Dock Problems

LEE - Couple things to try...

First, make sure you have the EDI cable plugged in between the microdock and the sound card. Yeah... sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised.

Secondly, uninstall the software (CAREFULLY FOLLOWING THE DIRECTIONS IN THE MANUAL). Once the software is uninstalled, reinstall the software (ONCE AGAIN, CAREFULLY FOLLOWING THE DIRECTIONS IN THE MANUAL). I've found that if you do not follow the directions word-for-word, things tend to not work.

If the above doesn't help, there's a chance that the microdock is burnt.

Out of curiosity... you didn't plug/unplug anything from the microdock with the microdock powered on, did you? This could be death, if you did...
