Copy heavy files fail from iRiver to Hard-Drive

I am trying to copy a file of more than 200 MB from iRiver H10 20G to desktop hard-drive (capacity 15 GB and 10 GB free space). I am getting always the error "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation."

Can anyone help me? Is there any restriction applied on the copying from iRiver?

(I am able to copy 1GB of file to iRiver but not visa versa).

Around 4 gb ?
In the Microsoft Windows operating system, you can copy and paste 5 GB files as long as you have enough disk drive space.

The disk drive to which you're pasting the file must be formatted using the New Technology File System (NTFS), which supports the copying and pasting of very large files.

Purchase a large capacity USB external hard disk drive from a reputable vendor.
Make sure that the hard disk drive is at least 100 GB.

Connect the external hard disk drive to a spare USB port in your computer. Wait for the Windows operating system to recognize the hard disk drive.

Double-click on the "Computer" icon on the Windows Desktop, after which a window will appear listing all of your disk drives. Establish the letter of the new hard disk drive you have just installed. For the purpose of this article, the drive letter is assumed to be "E."

Right-click on drive "E," click on "Format," change the file system to "NTFS," then click on the "Start" button. Wait for the process to complete.

Click on the 5 GB+ file to select it, then press "Ctrl" + "C" on your keyboard to copy the file to the Windows Clipboard.

Click on the "Computer" icon on the Windows Desktop, then double-click on the "E" drive. This will open the root folder of the hard disk drive in the same window.

Press "Ctrl" + "V" on your keyboard to paste the 5 GB+ file from the Windows Clipboard to the new hard disk drive. Wait for the process to complete, which will take several minutes.

When e-mailing or archiving huge files, it sometimes helps to cut them into smaller pieces.
Fast File Saw & Joiner does exactly that, and puts the pieces back together, too.

Complete user manual as said to be available in document with product SPHDU2 I need more detail than "drad and drop copies of your critical files onto the drive" I am computer iliterate

Open "My Documents".
Hold the CTRL key down, and click the mouse on the first file/folder that you want to copy.
While holding the CTRL key down, click the mouse on the next file/folder that you want to copy.
While holding the CTRL key down, keep clicking to "add" more files/folders to your "selected" objects.

Release the CTRL key.
Click with the SECOND (usually the RIGHT) mouse-button on one of the selected files/folders.
Point at "Send To".
Click on the icon for your your IOMEGA device.
The selected files/folders will be copied.

When the 'copy' completes, do _NOT_ delete your original files.
Instead, keep those original files in your 'My Documents' folder,
and keep the copy on the IOMEGA. That way, if your C: disk-drive fails,
or if the IOMEGA fails, then you still have _ONE_ copy of your files.

I have a low disk space. Can I install this 250GB 7200 RPM Desktop ATA Hard Drive, and will it work OK. Or what else ?

It may not work because the BIOS may not support a hard drive with this large capacity. Check the specification of your computer. The other option is to install it and then check the BIOS.
If you install this hard drive in a USB hard drive adapter case, and plug it into the USB port, most likely it will see it as and external storage device with over 200 GB capacity. You lose a small capacity when you format the hard drive.

I'm Windows XP... I can copy many files to the Verbatim. But when I try to copy a 1GB+ file, the copy craps out. I Googled and found some Microsoft problem when copying 1GB+ files to external drives, but...

The usual limit is exactly 2GB, not 1GB.
It's a limitation of the file-system used for the directory of the disk-drive, when formatted according to the 'FAT32' specifications.

So, copy all the files currently on the Verbatim to your disk-drive.
Then, "reformat" the external (not the "internal") disk-drive, using the 'NTFS' file-system. This file-system has a maximum-file-size limitation for one file that is _much_ larger than the capacity of your Verbatim.

Then, copy all the "saved" files back onto the Verbatim.

Finally, copy your "large" files onto the Verbatim.

First of all, Copy the files while you still can. This is a good time to look for a new hard drive. The longer that drive is powered the sooner it will fail.

Cannot open the hard drive

Something went wrong in the copy process!! What happened is your file system got corrupted! This can be rectified by trying chkdsk e: /f /r at the command propmt(Start->Run then tyrp cmd and press enter) There is a posissility that your actual hard drive is faulty! Utilities here can help you determine that! http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?locale=en-US&name=SeaTools&vgnextoid=720bd20cacdec010VgnVCM100000dd04090aRCRD try the seatools for windows, because you have an external hard drive! If the test comes back ok then it could be that you need to update your operating system! Also, what file system is the hard drive formatted with, cause the FAT32 isn't as reliable as the NTFS file system, so you might wanna change it to NTFS if its not already!( At the command prompt type convert e: /fs:NTFS and press enter) lemme know how it turns out good luck regards, babb
