Question about Sony Optiarc AD-7170S Burner
You have it set in RAM mode, which is it is being operated as a extra hard drive. you will need a optional software/driver package (if your pc/laptop) don't have it already, in order to set it back to cd/dvd mode. incidently, that software/driver is hard to come by.
look for as "dvd-ram driver download"...

Check for the cables, also check for the IDE Master Slave setting and try settting the drive to primary IDE socket. Re installing drivers might also help.

Use lens cleaner ,check for power cable and data cable also check out the drivers if problem persists contact manufacturer
