How do you make a residual plot? And I don't mean finding the residual line and plotting it in a regular scatter plot. I'm talking about a residual plot with a horizontal regression line at zero and the...

The simplest way would be to create a table where each x-value has a y-value that is the residual at the corresponding x. With a 2-list data set you can plot you residual plot.

My TI 84's diagnostic on button isn't working!!

I believe that there are a few things mixed up here. The DiagnosticsOn command turns the diagnostics on to allow the calculation of the correlation and the determination coefficients for the Regression models for which they are defined (meaningfull).
Regardless of the Diagnostics ON or OFF option, the residuals are calculated automatically and stored in the RESID list. You can have the graph of the residuals displayed. By examining it you might decide to select a different regression model.
See Chapter 12 of the manual, which you can find at this address.

I am trying to graph a residual plot as L3, but the graph isn't working. It's not even working for L1 and L2. Do I have a wrong setting?

I think you should run the SetUpEditor. Press [STAT][5:SetU[Editor][ENTER] to configure the calculator to perform a new statistics problem.
If you still have problems, clear the lists of all data and restart. Press [2nd][MEM][4:ClearAllLists][ENTER].

Hope it helps.
Thank you for using Fixya.

Steps from manual on how to do stemp plot box

To make a plot, first you will need to define a list. To do this, press "{", then enter the values of your list, separating each value with a comma, and ending the list with "}" then store (STO>) the list into a list variable ("2nd" + "1", "2", etc.). For a box plot, you will need only one list, and for a scatter plot, you will need two. One for the independent variable, and one for the response variable; that is, one for the X and Y axis, respectively. To make your plot, open the plot menu ("2nd" + "Y=") and select a plot. From there, you may select the type of plot and which lists to use as values.

To find the residuals for the line of best fit, from the home screen, press "STAT", then move one right to "CALC", then select option 4, "LinReg(ax+b)". Once this command is on your home screen, follow it with your X and Y axis lists, separated by a comma, eg: "LinReg(ax+b) L1, L2". Press enter. In a moment, you will be provided with 'a' and 'b' values. Plug those residuals into your "Y=" menu in the form "ax+b", replacing 'a' and 'b' with the residuals, and the line of best fit will be drawn across your graph.

When I was trying to get residuals more apperaed

To turn on the residuals, you must turn diagnostics on.

Press 2nd then zero. You are now in an alphabetical catalog list. Go to the d's in the list highlight "diagnostic on" and press enter. This will take you back to the home screen. You must press enter and get the word "done" on the home screen.

If you are trying to get the residuals in a list, you must calculate a regression first. Then when you press 2nd stat, resid should be in that menu.
