Yes, the gears get stripped inside. Usually caused by shifting while the tool is energized.
May be under warranty, check with tool repair shop.

SOURCE: Impact not working correctly

The pinion on front of motor is slipping on motor shaft. It seems to be just a press fit. Seems like a flaw in design. I had same problem. I took the dw056 apart and took pinion off motor and pressed groves into motor shaft with side cutter pliers. then pounded pinion back onto motor shaft. We will see how long this lasts the motor shaft is a softer metal. I feel the motor shaft should be hardened steel like the pinion and have a shear pin or some sort of spline to attach to pinion. Would like Dewalt to offer fix for this as I only used dw056 a couple of times before I had problem.

You may be able to pick the ring out of the quick coupler.

How to replace Dewalt cordless drill brushes

The brush holders & brushes for your DC825 are only sold as an assembly and the left and right sides are different; Dewalt part number 640550-00 for the left, 640555-00 for the right. They are accessable only by splitting the clamshell and easy to replace once you get to them.

Demolition tool or breaker

The shaft from the motor to the drive gear is likely not working the action of the hammer. There is a gear which spins the gears to achieve the hammer action, suspect the gear is either stripped, broken or both.

Gear slipping in dewalt dw056

Those gears are only held on the motor with their tight fit, if yours is slipping that easily the motor will have to be replaced. The new motor will have that gear on it.
