If you need help with locating the drivers. Please post your system brand and model number. If you have the motherboard brand and model number, that would be great as well

You need to use the RAID/ATA floppy disk that was provided with your motherboard. It was supplied either on the cd or on seperate floppies.
When you have the disk in the floppy drive you press F6 when it asks at the very beginning of loading files in the windows setup.
When the setup asks load the RAID/ATA drivers and when you go to install your hard disk will be detected. You will have to get a floppy drive and plug it up if you don't already have one. There is a way to build a windows setup cd which includes the ata/raid drivers but it's often easier to just get a floppy drive.

Could not proceed to boot

To check your hard disk drive if its detected, turn on your computer and press DEL or F2 to enter BIOS setup. Then go to standard cmos setup and there should be the hard drive detected as Primary or Secondary IDE or SATA. If detected and not loading into windows that case your operating system is corrupted. However If your hard drive is not detected on your bios, turn off your computer and unplug and plug your hard disk drive then turn on your computer start pressing again DEL or F2 then check again your hard drive if it is detected.

If your hard disk drive and cd/dvd rom drive are the same cable you can switch the cable to check if the cable of the hard drive are ok. After you have checked and you found out that the two cables are ok that means you will have to format your computer. But you must backup all your data and files before doing so. Formatting your computer will erase or delete the entire space of the partition which you perform formatting.

Complaining about hard disk not inserted

The problem is either the BIOS is not detecting the hard drive or the hard drive is faulty or the disk controller is faulty. Check the BIOS setting to see if it has detected the hard disk, and if there is a hard drive diags run it to test the hard drive. Try reseating the hard drive and if it doesn't work, remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter. Plug this adapter into a working computer's USB port and if this computer detects this as an external hard drive and you can view and open the various folders and files, then the hard drive is OK. If you haven't any files or folders in the hard drive, then format the hard drive from this computer to test this hard drive. If the hard drive is OK then the fault is probably the disk controller. If the hard drive is faulty, then you need a new hard drive in your computer.

I can not install Windows on my Compaq Evo N620c

The quickest solution here would be to put the hard drive into a computer that has Windows already running, and format it through the operating system itself. I've run into this problem a few times, and when another computer wasn't available I would use a Linux boot disk to clear out all my partition tables, then I would load up with Windows XP and tell it to write a new NTFS partition. Do NOT select the 'quick format' option, you'll have to wait through the long one.

How do i format the seagate 5400 160 gig hard drive?

Configuring the BIOS
After completing the drive installation, restart your computer. Your computer
may automatically detect your new drive. If your computer does not
automatically detect your new drive, follow the steps below.
1. Restart your computer. While the computer restarts, run the system
setup program (sometimes called BIOS or CMOS setup). This is usually
done by pressing a special key, such as DELETE, ESC, or F1 during
the startup process.
2. Within the system setup program, instruct the system to auto detect
your new drive.
3. Save the settings and exit the setup program.
When your computer restarts, it should recognize your new drive.

Hard disk drive not detected

firstly check your cable connections, then log onto your bios setup menu during startup and check whether the Hard drive is detected by your bios, if it is then you can try to format the harddrive using the ntfs system (use the long formatt) if you are using windows xp or later if using any earlier os then formatt with the FAT32 system.
If your HDD is not detected by the bios then try to download bios updates for your motherboard and install thed in windows. is this does not work then its time to get a new HDD. thanks
