Question about HP LaserJet 5000 Printer

1 Answer

Cant connect (or see) my LaserJet 5000 on Windows XP

I have a Dell Desktop and a MacPro networked through an AT&T Gateway modem/router with an HP LaserJet 5000n. The MacPro and Dell see each other fine, and the Mac can print as normal to the HP Printer. But I can not connect the Dell (WinXP) to the printer at all. I've printed a config page, and HP says the IP is 10.1.0.1 and I followed all the steps through The Wizard, but nothing lets me even print a Test Page. Its as if the Printer doesn't exist. Everything is hard wired using ethernet (no wireless for this set up)

Any help would be greatly appreicated.

In XP go to START > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK CONNECTIONS > LOCAL AREA CONNECTION
you should see a menu showing your network card and a window that says stuff like Client for Microsoft Windows. Below that window is an INSTALL button. Click on that and double click PROTOCOL. Select IPX/SPX NetBios and hit OK. You'll probably need the WindowsXP CD to finish installing the protocol.

The LJ5000 is a very old printer and if I remember correctly, it uses the IPX/SPX Netbios language to communicate through a network. Netbios is not installed by default in XP.

Windows vista crashed. changed bios to load xp. worked. old files on hidden drive. problem is cant connect to internet. driver files on hidden drive. Now what? Try to find driver and load it?

your explanation is very confusing. your internet connection must come from a modem either directly or remotely thru router. your mentioning of hidden drive does not make sense. drivers are not part of internet connection. you need to reset the modem and router if you are connecting through it. turn everything off. unplug router and modem. after 15 seconds unplugged, plug only modem in, wait until lights stablize; now plug router power back in, wait for lights to come on;,next turn PC on. Wait until completely booted up. go to control panel click on Network Internet, when opens try to find the local connect to network. if none, then your modem is not receiving signal or IP Address from your internet provider(comcast, centurylink, whoever). check status, if active fine. if active but icon says no internet access then your router is not set correctly. you may have lost its set up and you will have to reset up your router. you should have the step or instructions for doing that. after resetting and network active, restart computer so that is receives fresh settings from router.
if no network is found after restart you may have to reconfigure your internet connect by using the internet connection wizard(control panel).

Our HP desktop and Dell laptop are both connected to a AT&T 2 wire router/modem. The desktop is connected to an Epson non-wireless printer. How can we print wireless from the laptop? The laptop is...

You have to install the relevant drivers FIRST (Just install without printer thats fine) on the host & clients and then make sure you "Share" the printer on the Host setup. (The one where the printer is attached). Then on the clients you install a "Networked" printer and "Find" it on the network. Now ALL the PC's need to be in same"Workgroup" and have "Sharing" enabled on each machine, they all must have a name & password too..

I cant plot from AutoCad 2006, using My hp

hmmm.. we only have two computers at my work connected to a router. the designjet has a network card going straight to it. i connect to the router wireless and it reads vista. my boss connects to the design jet thru the router as well with a network card rj cable with xp pro. as for our printer it can be connected via router and does work fine but my boss has it directely connected to his computer and i share it off of his system. then we also have a zerox machine connected via router as well. maybe your router is going out? try a new one or a better one and see if that fixes it. it maybe defected or time for a new one.......

if it was working before then maybe its the router.

Network Vista Wireless Laptop to XP Desktop & Print Documents

On the desktop machine - go to the printers folder, right click the icon for the Laserjet and choose sharing (enable print sharing). You should be able to name the printer and make it accessible to anyone within the workgroup. If needed you can run the network setup wizard to change the workgroup names on both machines.

On the laptop go to add new printer and choose network printer, you should be able to browse to the desktop machine by name and choose the Laserjet as a printer (whether you want it to be the default is up to you). The laptop will download and install the drivers from the desktop pc to the laptop and set the correct network path automatically.

It goes without saying that the desktop machine must be on in order to print from the laptop in this scenario.

HELP PLEASE ASAP

OK well I think it is better to set it up like this... Connect the Modem to the Phone Line, Connect the Modem to the Router with an Ethernet Cable, Use a CABLE connection from the Main PC to the Router. (Ya gonna ditch the USB WiFi) Set that Main PC connection up to connect to the internet from the Main PC, thru Router thru Modem.... Then from Slave, install the USB adapter in this PC, and use this to connect DIRECTLY to the WiFi Router... and thus to the internet. This way will give the best transfer rates, and reliability
