Get your alternator checked at Auto Zone for free. It could also be your power steering unit, because it sounds as if a bearing is going out of something that is driven by your timing belt.

Check your antifreeze, it may be too diluted.

When I put my 2004 ford into 4x4 the left front starts to hum or whine like something is rotating free. It sounds like something is not connecting. I changed the actuator on the same side last year.

I would check to maek sure that your lock out hub didnt brerak off. My 2005 for f250 did that last year to me but on my right side. It sounded like a humming noise and got loude as i wen faser. After several weeks of tolleraing It I tore it apart and foind tha the hub was not releasing after putting it in 4 wheel drive. So my passenger side was locked in bu my drive side unlocked. I would try that as a first step. Itt should only be 3 tiny bolts on the hub itself. Mine are held on by 3 allen wrench head syle bolts. Hope this helps.

2004 f150 has a slight whining noise coming from the transmission on acceleration. Changed fluid and it still is present. What next without breaking the bank

It sounds like you have something rubbing against the drive shaft or your torque converter is having a problem. This leaves you with only one choice really, have the transmission serviced and checked by a transmission shop.
