Pulley Came off!!!

My gilfriends Maytag Neptune TL Washer made a horrible noise last night...i got home tonight and opened it up and found the belt off the motor and the pulley and the darn pulley was laying on the bottom...i found the 'small' bolt that holds the pulley on so i 'did my best' to get my hands under there (only like 2 inches work with...I was able to get a wrench on ti and tighten it down...but during a test spin cycle, it made some noise and came off again...the manual asks for 96lb of torque but i dont have torque wrench (plus i would not be able to fit it anywayy....anyway, i tighted the bolt on tighter the second time...and ran the spin...but the motor would not run....ended up getting a LR value on control panel...if i dont tighten the bolt tight, it comes off..if i tighten it too tight, do you think that is what is causing the motor to freeze up (or at least not pull the belt enough to spin pulley?

My Magtag Neptune TL 6800 started making a horrible squealing noise then smoke started coming out of the washer. What do you the problem may be?

You need to replace the belt needed to spin the drum. It sounds to me like you may have been overloading the drum, putting too much stress on the belt. Over time, it has begun to " burn rubber" as it spins, causing smoke, or worst case scenario, the motor that turns the belt is locking up as the drum spins causing friction on the belt.

Work fine but when spin mode makes a lot of noise (CLICKING SOUND)

More than likely a Clutch issue. Google this Google these text phrases for support Sticky: Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW to the 5th post down in that Sticky. I go thru how to remove the Clutch Pulley and inspect for wash water damage caused by a leaky Tub Seal.

I will help you on that forum if you want to DIY. Go to the Maytag/Magic Chef/Admiral/Jenn-Air forum and post your issue for help. I check it every day for FAV6800A and FAV9800A issues.

GETTING DC ERROR CODE WITH A GRINDING SOUND AND THEN IT STOPS COMPLETELY

The DC error code is 9 time out of 10 caused by a Clutch Pulley malfunction. The grinding may ne Outer Tub Bearings but need more info. Open the Washer Lid. Spin the wash basket CCW. Do you hear and grinding noise?

The noise may be coming from under neath the tumblers. Further troubleshooting is required.

Do you have basic DIY mech. skills and do you want to save your $1K machine?

If so Google Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW

In the Sticky: Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW 5 post down you will find a link to the Service Manual. You absolutely need the Service Manual to DIY issues with the machine. It's not the best SM but will get you started. I also have repair post in that sticky to help with the most common issues that I have helped owners with. Trying to remove clutch/pulley bolt on Maytag neptune tl washer. Turning bolt only makes pulley spin. Which is correct direction to turn it when looking up at bolt head? Some posts I read say CW (left...

It's std thread place your 3/8" socket wrench at three o'clock position on the bolt....the handle pointing to the right side panel. Hold the Clutch Pulley with your left hand and pull toward you. This is CW rotation of the socket wrench toward the front of the machine. You have to hold the Clutch Pulley from turning. leave the drive belt on. It's right Hand thread I tried to describe CW rotation of the bolt to loosen.

My last post here good luck.... Sorry if I caused any confusion with this post Clutch repair post

Maytag Neptune TL Stops

I just did a repair on my FAV6800AAW by lubricating the needle bearings in the clutch pulley hub, the tub displacement sensor checked OK per the service manual check. I was getting dc/uc errors, washer was purchased in 7/05. I have basic mechanical skills and used a socket wrench to remove clutch pulley hub, just follow the service manual removal steps to remove clutch pulley hub. Pull the plastic cover off the clutch pulley hub and inspect the spring, clean/lube needle bearings and the clutch hub coupler that drives spinner shaft. I used WD40 I may need to re-lube down the road with a good light grease. It took a few tries for me to get the clutch pulley hub to stay on after re-install and power up, getting the clutch pulley seated properly is the trick. I did not remove the washer tub for this fix, I believe I saw a posting where someone did. I just leaned the washer back to get a better reach angle, it is a tight work area. I did not want to junk 3.5 yr old $1k machine with out trying a fix. If you want to work on this model get the service manual, I found it online and I believe you can order it in PDF format from Maytag. Good luck!

I just went thru my 10th load of a mix of light, medium heavy loads and all work fine no unbalance errors (DC/UC). Doesn’t fix the tangle problem :) Prior to this fix I could only run the washer with no clothes in it to complete a cycle with no dc/uc error codes.
