Why did the coffee maker leak bad and now just quit wont gety hot

You seem to be saying the unit "leaked: really badly getting water all over; and now the hot plate will not heat up. Such "leaks" are usually caused when the basket is not pushed in correctly so that the water cutoff switch remains closed when it should be open. (The water cutoff valve is what allows you to remove the pot/carafe in order to pour a quick cup even while the coffee is still drip brewing.) If that cutoff vvalve remains closed for more than a minute or so, or less, water will overlow the basket because with its path out the bottom and into the pot is blocked' and it has not place else to go but over the top of the filter basket holder. Now, when such an overlfow (not leak) happens, there is the hot plate right below into which the overflow flows down. As long at it remains wet it will be short circuited and not heat up. So let stand and/or blow or hairdryer heat to remove all water (be sure to unplug coffee maker to to that). Now, once everything including the hot plate are dry, the coffee maker will either work fine, or will need to be replaced.

I have acquired a rival rice cooker 4310 and it won't heat up. It appears to be the power cord as it doesn't show any power flow with the multimeter on the heating element or the resistor. no...

There is a heat sensitive switch attached to the inner pot. It is very small, it turns the heat off when the pot reaches boiling temp. If it is open, replace it. They come in different temps, so get the right one. This one is supposed to open at 212 degrees, f. You will find a similar one in a Mr. Coffee, it switches the pot from boil to keep.

Bunn nhb coffeemaker warming plate switch doesn't work. Can I replace this myself?

You will need any multimeter to test this but it may not be a bad switch but rather a failed heater element. You can buy these on line very cheap or at Radio Shack and auto parts stores. Don't spend over $20 (I have several bought for <$5). The added features or claimed accuracy won't do a layman any good.

Hotplate not heating up and water not being taken into the machine

you have blown the thermal heat switches usuallythere are two but it usually only blows one of them. they are located under the heating plate they look like small bullets check with a test meter to see if current passed through them if it does not replace them they are cheap and do not solder theminto place they are held together by copper wire clips as heating plate will get hot enough to remelt solder and lose connection... word of warning those thermal safty switches do on ocasion do go out without any problems but most of the time they blow due to a problem problem with the coffee maker. thats whatthey are there for .so you may wat to replace coffee maker for safety sake. and in the event you want to try your hand a coffee pot repair youhave the perfect guinny pig... good luck

3 components in the bottom of the pot 1 white controls temp? 2 look like resisters, which are open if i jumper across the pot will heat. what are they? model cjx21cp they have to be similiar. Help!

These are over temp sensors. Normally, they should be closed. They open if a over temp occurs and then reset when cool. As a test, If you jump around them and the unit heats up they are bad and, just replace them. Do not jump around them permanently as this can cause a fire.

Coffee maker water does not heat

unless you have a real expensive coffee maker, it is cheaper to just replace it at this point. chances are the heating element has burned in two.

Mr coffee vbx23 coffee pot looks like a two resistors on the heating element that are open. can't tell if these are resistors or not and can't read what is written on them

Mike: I have the same problem. I measured the resistance, and they are open, infinite resistance. I soldered a heavy brass wire across them to bypass them. Pot works fine. I turned it on, no smoke no excess heating of the wire. Made a pot of coffee, waited the required two hours and it turned itself off as is supposed. Replaced the bottom held on by several Phillips-head self tapping screws. Have no idea why the "resistors" were even there. Could it be they are capacitors? I doubt that. Capacitors short and resistors open, if the capacitors were shorted they would stll pass current to the heating element. Seems to me they have to be resistors. Roy

Problem with volume dials in an electric guitar.

If you can't clean the pots or if you just want to try replacing them, try using
500k pots again, in case one or both of the pots is worn or dirty or
defective. If that doesn't work, and cleaning or replacing the
switches doesn't work, then the problem is probably elsewhere.
You could put a 500k resistor (with a sufficiently-high power rating of at least half the power rating (Watts) of the pot) in parallel with the pot, or, to cover all bases, put a 500k resistor from each of the two outer lugs of the pot to the middle lug. That should change it into the equivalent of a 250k pot. You could even just temporarily clip the resistors on, with alligator-clip leads, if you're very careful, just to test it.

Good luck,

The dude.

Warming plate boils coffee.

Make sure you are using the type of commercial coffee pot like the one in the picture. They don't have to have to be plastic with the metal bottom, they can be all glass. The commercial pots are heavy duty and usually disperse the heat well.

If you are using commercial pots the only solution without replacing the warmers is to put three pennies on the warmer and to put the pot on top of them. The pennies will get hot so don't forget and grab them but the pennies help to move the pot just a little way away from the direct heat.
