Question about Sony MegaStorage CDP-CX455 400-Disc CD Changer
When unit is turned-on, it starts humming as if it's trying to change disks. After a few seconds, it quits humming but it will not respond to any commands from the remote or from the buttons in the unit. The unit will not turn off. The only way to shut if off is to unplug it.
Take the cover off and locate the humming noise...is there a belt loose?

the timing will be out of line, thats whats putting in shut-down mode. dis-engage the tape carriage from the running cogs and manually put it in eject mode, re-align the main cogs to their pointers. there should be one on the cogs and on the chassis to help you re-align then re-engage the carriage to its cog.

Move the remote to another room to test. It is possible a button on the remote is stuck on.
Beyond that , it probably needs to go in for service.

It sounds like it's a position sensor issue, either the player is not detecting the cd's in the carousel or it's not detecting which position it's in. Try looking for a sensor and cleaning it with some isopropyl alcohol and a Q-Tip.
