Question about Refrigerators

GE Profile Artica Side by Side Refridgerator isn't cooling.

Both the freezer and the refridgerator are not cooling. Unit is approximately 7 years old. Fan seems to be working. Power is to the unit.

No frost on the back of the freezer. I think it stopped working over 24 hours ago. I can hear it humming like normal.

Hi, Check the rear panel in the freezer section to see if there is a frost build up. If so, there is a defrosting problem. I can help further is this is the case.

well you have to take the back off the freezer and see if there is any or no frost on the coils

frost on the back of the freezer? you can hear the compressor and fans? if you take the back off of freezer do you see any frost on the coils? if just a little bit half way acrossed the coils indicates insufficent compressor or low on freon. if you have alot of frost indicates a defrost problem

You say fan seems to be working? it either is or it is not working. If you are getting a reduced airflow in the cabinet, it may indicate that the evaporator coil is iced up and needs to be manually defrosted.

GE refridgerator won't cool

First of all check and see if the compressor is running and if not is it very hot to the touch. If the compressor is not running but hot then the compressor is either locked up or is cycling on its internal thermal overload. If this is the case then either the condenser fan motor is not running and/or the condenser coil is very dirty. If the condenser coil is dirty you need to blow it out with compressed air(watch out for all the blowing dust). If the compressor has been cycling alot on its internal thermal it will eventually lock up permanently and you will need a new compressor. I hope I was of some assistance to you!

My freezer (ge artica) temperature goes up to 40%, then cools dow

The main problem with the Artica/Profile is that they have a main control board and a thermostat board inside the fresh food compartment. I have a repair manual and will send you a copy if you want but we are going to have to look at the control boards for burn marks. Let me know if you need me. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Fridge isn't cold

Hi,

if the compressor is running your ref. should be getting cold. Their is a defrost timer but when it is in defrost the compressor shuts off. I think you do have a leak.

thanks,
