Can the mcu short itself out?

Anything with an IC can quit working. Also a motor that quits working can still have continuity if it isn't tested right giving false readings. I wonder if you can prove that the motor works by giving it power through test leads and if it needs temporary power to a start winding do so. If it has a centrifugal switch i would suspect it. Open the centrifugal switch and clean the contacts and verify that it opens and closes.

yes a shorted motor winding will destroy the M.C.U.remove the motor and with a multi-meter check the 3 windings,there are 3 motor connections due to the motor being a 3 phase motor(operated by the inverter board) M.C.U. each connection should read between 7.8 and 11.6 ohms,if one connection is shorted it will ruin the triacs on the inverter board and destroy it
