Thanks for your response- I am about to do the laptop some serious damage!  I hate them right now.  I am not an expert  at all, It must have an internal modem as it was there before the hard drive failed.  I have moved the hard drive from another laptop and reinstalled XP and Office onto the laptop which used to dial up. We still intend to connect using dial up if we can.  I have since found that it has a PCI modem?! This is not configured to any port and I cannot get it to detect anything it says it needs to look up for a fix.  I cannot dial up anything so this is not possible!

To access the ports you mean via the control panel.  If it is an internal modem then XP would automatically install it as a hardware providing it is connected to the motherboard.  I detected you saying that you rebuilt the PC.  Have you slotted an internal modem into one of the periferal slots or did it use an external modem.  Did you know you dont need a modem to logon to the net unless your dialing up? But if you use broadband most use an external modem that connects fast ethernet connection.  But I suppose you know this after all you rebuilt the machine.

    Look at this reading:

Warning! Save time and aggravation: PCI Modems must be 'enumerated' and driver correctly installed to define the COM port for the modem. With Windows, this is supposed to be automatic, plug and play - but it doesn't always work that way. IF Windows thinks a driver is correctly installed, even if it is not, it may become almost impossible to load a good modem driver (Win 98,Me,2K and XP). See this page for some real-world PCI hassles involving Conexant Soft56/HSF modem. Many PCI modems can not be successfully installed using Windows Add New Hardware or Add Modem in Control Panel.

I tried to send you the file but to no avail please go to this link:

Download the driver it is the one for your machine do you know how to install it because it comes in a ZIP form you will need to unzip it into C:\windows\system32  folder and install it from the control panel as in hardware.  Goodluck

I have install windows xp sp11 so i cant access internet becouse i wanna install modem driver plss tell me how can i install what is the drivers name

use another computer to download SP2 onto CD or a USB drive, then copy onto your XP SP1, it will provide more dirvers. Be sure and remove the modem before you start all of this. And also look at Computer, Drivers and uninstall any drivers for your modem model. Install SP2 and do windows update. I would also recommend after this to get SP3.

Last step if Windows doesn't have the driver is to get the driver from the manufactures website. Some modems have specific PC software beyond the driver to use it.

The ZTE modem when initially connected to any system loads as a storage device which contains the software necessary to install the modem. Connect the ZTE and open it in Explorer. Double click the setup file (.exe) to start installation. Follow instructions and allow installation to complete. The modem is automatically installed during this setup. Once completed restart and then your ZTE functions as a modem.

I have recently bought an EPC netbook, internet problems

3 mobile are correct. You cannot use the USB modem dongle that 3 supply to access the internet. That dongle requires application software to allow internet programs to access the port and so access the modem in the dongle. Windows CE does not allow this access. Find out which modem chip is in the dongle and google the name of the chip, this should lead you to a driver which you can use through CE although you may have to reconfigure the 3 dongle..

My modem cant work

633 - The port is already in use or is not configured for Remote Access dialout

This error can occur if:

The modem is actually in use - make sure you don't have other applications that are using the modem. Applications that can use the modem include fax software, terminal software (like HyperTerminal), as well as voice software including software that can make your modem an answering machine or speakerphone.

One way of seeing all running applications is to press CTRL+ALT+DEL and look at the Task List or Task Manager. This will display the actual program names - it may be difficult to pinpoint which, if any, programs are accessing the modem. Terminating tasks are about the only way - however, if you terminate certain tasks, your system may crash or become unstable.

The telephone.ini file is missing or damaged - If the telephone.ini file is missing or damaged, you can create a new one by running Tapiini.exe - this file is in the \windows\system folder. Before you run this, rename the telephone.ini file and reboot your PC if it already exists. Then, run the tapiini.exe file. This program will run very quickly and may not appear to do anything. You can verify the program created the telephone.ini file by searching for it.

The telephone.ini file is a Microsoft Windows file that stores settings for all TAPI-enabled applications including DUNS.

Make sure the modem named in the DUNS entry matches the name of your installed modem - You can check the name of your modem in ControlPanel->Modems.

Windows 95/98 - Can occur if the Unimodem TAPI file (unimdm.tsp) is missing or damaged. See MS KB Q150619

Windows XP - Can occur if another device's driver has a conflict with the modem driver. MS KB 324760 indicates this can occur with older Palm Desktop HotSynch Software.

Setting up linksys adsl2 modem

The ADSL, Ethernet, and USB ports are located at the back of a Linksys modem. These ports are where the phone cable and computer will be connected. The ADSL Line should be connected to the ADSL port and the computer either be connected to Ethernet or the USB port., If u r using a ethernet cable no need to run the setup cd just connect the ethernet cable and contact ur isp..
do not worry about ur sagem modem, let it be inside.. just connect ethernet cables alone..

To setup a Linksys ADSL Modem with usb cable you need to perform two steps:
  1. Connecting the Devices Together
  2. Installing the USB Driver
Connecting the Devices Together
Step 1:
Connect the phone cable to the wall jack with ADSL service and then connect the other end to the ADSL port of the modem.
Step 2:
Make sure the power adapter is plugged to an available power outlet.
Step 3:
Connect the USB to the USB port on the back of the modem and then connect the other end top the USB port of the computer.
Step 4:
Power on the modem. After connecting the device together, install the USB driver. For instructions, follow the steps below.
Installing the USB Driver
Step 1:
Power on the computer.
Step 2:
When the Hardware Update Wizard window appears. Click Install the software automatically (Recommended).
NOTE: Windows XP has pre-installed drivers for the ADSL2MUE and will automatically install the USB driver for the modem.
Step 3:
Click Finish.

I can't get my computer on the internet . I am using windows xp and the modem will not get the internet on the dell computer

Hi, This modem can be used via one of two ports: ethernet port (network port) or USB port If your computer has an ethernet port, it is perferable that you connect through this as you will have better performance. If you don't then you can get an ethernet card installed inside the CPU. If it's not possible to connect via this connection and you have to use the USB, then you will need drivers. This website gives you full instructions on how to use this particular modem and also gives you the USB drivers if needed. Good luck! Lolita
