Question about Acer Aspire Timeline X 4820t-6447 Core I5 2.66ghz 14.0" Led Display 4gb/640gb

Acer 4820T refuses to play DVD

I have just booted up my laptop and put in a DVD, but nothing happened. Autoplay hasn't run, and the CD drive appears to have disappeared from 'Computer'. I've had this problem before and have previously solved it with the old 'switch-on-switch-off' routine, but that hasn't worked this time. I have previously watched this DVD with no problems, and the drive was working perfectly the last time the laptop was on (less than 24 hours ago) Under 'Device Manager' the driver seems to be enabled, says its working fine and doesn't need any updates. I don't know if it's relevant but one thing that I have noticed - when looking at the properties of the device it says it is set to region 1, whereas I am region 2. I haven't changed this myself previously, and it won't let me change it now. Any advice much appreciated :)

If it is running on Windows 7, Please type 'Autoplay' on the search box just above the Start button and check enable autoplay on cd/dvd drive for the type of file and program you'd like it run but please uncheck it for pendrive/removable drives to protect your computer from 'autorun virus usually transfers through removeable drives. then follow these steps: - 1.. download and install chipset and USBHost drivers from the manufacturer's(Acer) website according to model number, 2. remove the optical drive from your laptop, 3.reconnect the cd/dvd drive, 3. restart the Laptop! Good luck!.

SOURCE: Acer 5580 Bluetooth and USB port problem

There may be a bent connector on one of the USB ports or a defective USB controller on the motherboard. The bluetooth connector may not have been reconnected or the bluetooth module was not reinstalled after service. Sadly you will need to have it serviced again. They most likely will not replace it it with a new laptop, but maybe a refurbished one. You could push for a warranty extension for amount of time the system has been due to need of repair. Good Luck.

SOURCE: acer aspire can't find the dvd to play cd's

In the device manager, select the DVD ROM and UNINSTALL / REMOVE the device.  Restart Windows . . . did this work?  If not, boot into your CMOS and see if the drive is being detected by the motherboard... if yes, look further and make sure the settings for the drive are correct. Make sure that all IDE interfaces are enabled in the CMOS settings (both)

Why won't my Acer laptop play compact discs?

Most units are designed to "autoplay" audio CDs when they are inserted. When they fail to do so, it could be because the CD is dirty or scratched and was bot recognized, the media player that you are using to play the CD was not in a state that it could autoplay the CD, or there could be a problem with the Disk drive or PC itself. Whenever a CD fails to play upon insertion, go to the "My Computer" icon (win7 or below) and see if the CD/DVD drive shows a disk inserted. If so, clicking on the drive will often start the playback.

I have a Toshiba Laptop which when either CD or DVD starts but nothing appears on screen and the disc stops after a few seconds can you help??

are you talking about when windows is loaded? I guess my question is are you asking about autoplay, or are you talking about trying to boot from a disc, if it's during boot, you can either press f12 to get to the one time boot menu and choose your dvd/cd drive, if you're talking about windows you can do this: Go to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\AutoPlay. To Enable: At the top, check Use Autoplay for all devices and Click Save.

You computer probably has Autoplay turned off for security.
-Click the start button on the lower left and click Computer when it appears near the middle of the right column. -Look for one of the drives labeled CD or DVD, probably the D drive. Righ-click it's icon. -From the list choose Autoplay.
If Autoplay is not an option double-click on the CD or DVD drive. Look for an application called Setup and double-click it to begin setup.

see if it can still boot the cd , put in a windows cd
go into the bios and set the cd as boot device in boot order.
save and exit with cd in drive
you will get a prompt at boot to press any key to boot cd
do this and let it run until the next prompt screen then exit .
if it never will boot the cd , time to replace drive.
