Question about Philips Magnavox 27MS343S 27" TV
My flat screen got smashed so a neighbor gave me an old magnavox 27ms343s (which am grateful for) , it worked fine when I first got it but when i turned it on this morning the picture was huge almost like it was stuck on wide screen or zoom. I checked all of the settings on the tv and cable box and all of those settings are fine. I know its the tv because when I turned on the game system I had the same problem. Is there anything I can do to fix this or is the tv just going out ?
You may have pressed the smart picture key on the remote.
SmartPicture: Lets you set the picture's color, tint, contrast, etc., for various types of programming. Settings include Sports, Movies,Weak Signal, and Personal, which sets the picture controls as you want.
1 Press SMART PICTURE on the remote control. The current SmartPicture setting will appear on the screen.
2 Press SMART PICTURE repeatedly to select PERSONAL, MOVIES, SPORTS, or WEAK SIGNAL. The PERSONAL setting is what you specify with the picture adjustments as described on page 15. PERSONAL is the only SmartPicture setting you can change. All others are set at the factory during production.

You will for sure need to borrow a remote from someone to do this. But I will give you the way to unlockit just in case you can get one. Philips sets use a four digit code to control the v-chip. The override code for Philip sets is 0711, although it may say "Incorrect code" the first time to trick you. If "Incorrect code" is displayed, simply enter 0711 again. To use it hit the MENU key to get to the menus. Go up or down until you reach AUTOLOCK or SMARTLOCK, depending on the model, and push the "right arrow" key on the remote. Enter the override code, and enter it a second time if it says it is incorrect. Once in the AUTOLOCK or SMARTLOCK menu, go to BLOCK, and push the "right arrow" key. Go to BLOCKING OPTIONS and press the "right arrow" key. Go to MASTER DISABLE and press the "right arrow" key so that it says "MASTER DISABLE ON". The v-chip is now reset. Good Luck

Push in and hold code search button until it stays lit, then pushed the TV button, it flashes quickly. Then hit the number zero once, then hit channel up button until tv finally changes channel. Hit the mute button once to get it to store the code.

hide all your remote controlls and put some tape over the front cover of the tv where you think the remote control reciever may be , if this fixes it then it means something is amiss with a rogue remote , most likely batterys..could even be sunlight ??
