Question about Nikon D70s Digital Camera

1 Answer

Nikon Battery into charger, blinks 3 times then no light.

The battery apparently is dead, as the camera will not power on. I left the battery in the charger overnight, before I recognized there was a problem, as the charger has always worked perfectly in the past. Is there significance to the 3 blinking lights?

I don't think the charger will blink again when you put back the battery.
The manual says, when the battery is placed and the charge lamp does not glow, the battery is defect.
See the manual:

The manual does say nothing about blinking. Each charge cycle starts with blinking. This time it took three blinks before the charger discovered the battery was "gone".

Is there a way for me to verify that the battery is defective?

I'm not sure if you can work with a multi meter. Not even sure you have one. But perhaps someone in your family has one. Try measuring the voltage of the battery. It should be a little higher than the printed value on the battery. I do have to startup my laptop to see what the exact value is. As soon as the voltage is under the printed value after it was charged, you can be sure it is defect. Later today I will check the exact value.

Nikon COOLPIX S5200 will not charge or come on.....almost new!!! :(

You need to return it for a replacement while it is new. Try returning it to the store for a replacement first. If they won't replace it, contact Nikon. Never try to fix a brand new item. It will void the warranty.

Most of the time it is the battery, or the battery contacts. Make sure, when you place the battery on the charger, the charger acts like the manual says. If the charger does not starts with a slow blinking light, something is wrong. If it does not give any light, check the power (cord and outlet) on the end of the charge, the light should burn continues.
When you are not sure the battery is good, try mother battery.
It also can be the contacts are not free or oxidised. Check the contacts on the battery and in the camera, if they are clean and shiny. Just a spec of dust, or a very small pice of paper on one of the contacts cab spoil all the fun. You could clean the contacts with a dry cloth, or a cotton swab. Never use anything sharp in or close to a camera.
After you replaced the battery, try again. If nothing (not even a new battery) works, contact a Nikon certified service centre. Or visit the dealer.

NIKON MH26 BATTERY CHARGER BLINKING GREEN LIGHTS

A blinking green light means the charger is charging the battery. A steady green light (same LED) means that charging is complete. If the light never stops blinking and we assume that your charger is working correctly, you may have a defective battery. Rechargeable batteries do not last forever. After a few years, there ability to take and hold a charge declines. It may be time to buy a new battery.

Read page 16 of the manual. Do not use any other charger with this camera. Are you sure you have the battery inserted correctly? When trying to charge, does the green light blink? If so, when it stops blinking and turns off, the battery should be fully charged. Do not attempt to turn the camera on while the charger is trying to charge the battery.

Welcome to FixYa.

Red light indicates that the battery is charging. The light will goes off to inform you the charging is complete. Possible that the battery was alreay damaged since you left it charging overnight. Charging time is approximately 5 hours only.

I suggest that you have to replace your battery with a new one.
