Don't force it what ever you do! The slightest push in the wrong direction will not only damage the motor, but put you lens out of alignment.
Try this
With the batteries IN, press and hold the power button for at least 10secs. The diagnosis phase will hopefully kick in and reset the camera. I'm not familiar with your model, but I remember one of the coolpix models had a override function (ON+SHUTTER) or something like that

When I power up the camera the lens opens and immediately retracts and the camera shuts off. I've attempted to push every button while turning on the camera to no avail. I also held onto the lens when it...

Have you made sure that the batteries are LiIon and fully charged? I had a similar problem with a Kodak Easyshare camera that required the higher voltage LiIon battery pack rather than alkaline AAs which will fit in there but is not exactly right.

Sanyo S770 lens won't retract on shut off and shuts down when try to zoom and get lens error

Lens error happens during the lens guide pin wrong movement. Please try these below and let me know.
1. Ensure batteries are fully charged & clean the battery connector point in side the battery compartment.
2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand, dirt or any damaged etc.
3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck
4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 5 minutes and refit the battery only.
5. Now turn on camera( with out card ) and see ,if working then fix the memory card & again turn on the camera. If working then fine . Otherwise format the memory card and fix back in camera again & try. Make sure before format the memory card take a back up all photos in your computer then format. If no luck then reset or restore the camera setting by pressing Menu key for 2 sec .. in not done the press both Menu & self time key for 2 - 4 sec.
i hope it will gives you success. Thanks & Before you leave, if you have found my information helpful and if you haven't already done so then please press the ACCEPT button, this is how I am paid for helping you today. POSITIVE feedback & bonus is appreciated

Fujifilm Camera F401 lens opens and green light displays then camera shuts down and lens does not retract. i have already inserted new battery

Your problem may be due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

Easy Share C913 - When I turn it on it tries to start but the lens retracts and it shuts down

If the camera has recently been dropped it may have lens damage that is preventing it from powering up. If it hasn't been dropped, your problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries, place them back in the camera (assuming that you're using rechargeable batteries). This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your batteries may need to be replaced, or the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

Buzzing sound, wont come on!

Don't try and manually push in the lens at first...the buzzing is a warning letting you know that something is wrong with the camera. By accidently removing the batteries during shut down you interupted the shut down sequence. Try and turn on the camera and immediately press the play button on the back. This should reset the camera. If not and if you are under warranty it needs to be serviced. If you are not under warranty then you can try and push the lens down. Don't use a lot of force but try and gently do it.

Kodak easy share z612 will not turn on to take a picture

When the battery dies, usually the camera will retract the lens if possible. If the battery is so dead the lens can not retract, I would recommend trying to charge or change the battery. Or try to turn the camera on, and then manually shutting it off if you can.
