This tutorial will show you how to check your Smeg element and how to replace your Smeg cooker element.
Here are the 3 main faults to look for in your oven or cooker that is not heating

  1. Your oven will not work until the clock/timer has been re-set after replacing an oven element or tripping the electrical supply. Consult your Smeg manual.
  2. If your Oven is not getting hot or heating up it could be a faulty element, if the fan in the oven is running and the thermostat light is on, this will lead us to believe that the element has gone faulty. With grills the thermostat light should come on there should be heat, if not then this could be the grill element or the thermostat.
  3. When you turn the oven on, the household electrical supply trips on the Rcd (this is the earth trip in the fuse board sometimes called the breaker tripping) your fan oven element has gone to earth and needs replacing.

Both the rear circular element and recirculation fan do not work.

Hi, it sounds like both the element and the fan have blown together, though this is unusual. If you can access the element quite easily I would look to see if there is a small hole in the side of the element.
It could be that there are some internal fuses somewhere in the oven housing, though the likelyhood is that you would need to remove the back off the oven, which normally means removing the whole thing from the housing.
If you don't feel confident in checking this I would advise asking a local electrician to take a look for you. try to find one that don't make a callout charge, most of the appliance repair companies do charge around £75 just to tell you that you have a problem, this normally covers up to 30 minutes of labour, after that you could pay anything up to £75/hour, these guys no how to charge and hit your pocket.
Hope this helps

I am replacing an oven element for a Westinghouse POH967s/1. The rear element doesn't appear to have screws on the plate that has the elements going into the back of the oven? It had 1 screw on a bracket...

If they are about 1/4" in size and you have a screwdriver that has removable tips, remove the tip and use it as a nut driver to remove the bolts. Otherwise get a nut driver or 6 sided socket the size you need and remove them.

Diplomat ADP 5520 Stainless Steel Range not getting hot enough

The circular element that the fan sits behind heats the oven. Ensure the thermocouple is back in the right place. Too near the element and the oven will stay cool.
Circular elements can be pricey and fitting should cost no more than an hours labour.

Oven will not heat

the bake element has failed. they can be had for around 20 dollars. Unplug unit before
replacing the element. Usually will only need 1/4 inch nut driver to remove two
screws inside oven and slide out element and unplug the spade connectors.
The model and serial should be located behind the lower drawer on the left side.
An appliance parts store should carry this in stock since many models utilize the
same element. Hope this helps.

The ignition goes on but gas dose not goes on.the oven is GE about 20 year old. the ignition is electric. Not sure model # AT501820J

by ignition goes on I assume that you can see it glowing ..these are just tiny heating elements and when they get to a certain current they open the gas valve and it ignites. These little elements over time start to loose there effectivness and either take a realy long time to open the gas valve or don,t open it at all. The igniter is realatively cheap and easy to change if you're inclined give it a try... turn off the gas turn of the electricity and be carefull, I will warn you however I,ve done lots of these and in a small number of cases it turns out to be the gas valve itself ...don,t do that one unless you are familiar with gas valves and have exactly the right tools Good Luck
